making a lock up non lock up.

i recently recieved a 3000 stall that is a non lock up.it came with the art carr valve to put in the pump.my question is when you take out the old valve to put the new one in do you leave the springs in the bottom?

The Art Carr one anyway.

No you dont. You pull ck valve out of input. Install valve. Add set screw. snap ring and retainer thats it.

Did I dream it or read a post somewhere that leaving the input check ball out made for quicker/better lockup when using a lockup convertor??
