Im about to purchase a 2003 eclipse for my ladyfriend :) It has the factory warranty still left on it and was told by the dealer that there is no paperwork. Basically that as long as I bring it in to a mitsubishi dealer within the warranty time, that they will take care of it no matter who you purchased the car from. Does this hold true??? Thanks!

Scott

Mitsubishi Motors should have a "hot line" that could answer that question for you. I would not like the response that you received, and probably would not buy a car under same and/or similiar conditions.

It's true. I have a 3KGT VR-4 and when bought it, it was still under factory warranty. When the motor in the active aero went out, I just took it to the dealer and they looked everything up under the VIN. Take the vin to the dealer and check it out.

At GM all we never asked for customer info as far as factory warranty. Aftermarket ones are far more demanding though. As long as the vehicle conformed to factory guidlines, it was covered. Never had any questions as to whether it was first, second, or third owner. All cars were run thru the system to get complete records on it any way.

Yep, warranty follows the car, not the owner. It's based on miles and the original in-service date (basically when it was sold). All of this is in the computer. However, warranties can be voided prior to expiration so like was stated, check it out first.

Are you just basing this on modifications? Because car is all stock. Should be ok then right?

Scott, just to be safe, take the VIN to a Mitsubishi dealer and have them run the number thru to see if there is anything that has an effect on the warranty. We found cars before that had been lemon law, salvage, or flood cars, all of which void factory warranty. Most of the writers in the service drive are normally more than happy to help you out with this.
