I trained for 2-3 months at a local MMA gym but I kinda grew uninterested in it and I haven't been in many months. I wasn't any good on my stand-up or ground game for that matter and got armbarred way too easily most of the time. Plus I'm going to college and studying and playing pool in the APA league 3 days a night so I really don't have time for much else. I still practice striking around the house everyday for a few minutes just to keep halfway warm.
I just panicked most of the time and of course that's the last thing you want to do. I never had any trouble with getting choked out because I knew how to defend against a triangle choke or a RNC. In fact whenever I did submit someone,it was with a triangle or RNC. It was mainly jui-jitsu I had trouble with. When I would roll with someone during BJJ class,I would up not knowing what to do when I had the upper hand. But I could counter fairly well though. Never did roll with any newbs who were too rough. The classes were monitored very well. Once I did see the instructor roll with a guy and choke him unconscious with a triangle because the guy refused to tap. It was funny as crap because when the kid tried and stand up right after gaining consciousness,he nearly busted his ass and the instructor sat him down again.Did you ever get anxious about submissions?
I can't imagine struggling and getting stuck with a RNC.
That and getting stuck in a knee or arm bar with some newb or
jerk who applies it too hard.

The main thing that got me discouraged from that gym was that most of the students had a lot more experience than me and I feel were less patient when they showed me moves. For example in BJJ class once,I just couldn't figure out how to get an armbar from full mount in a smooth transition. I was practicing with a veteran of the gym and I could tell he was frustrated at me. It probably didn't help matters when I accidentally kicked him in the head while trying to swing my other leg around.![]()
