Is there an easy way to see if the MAF is even functoning ?
I thought I read somewhere on this board that you can see a glowing wire
inside it when it is running if it is in the dark ?
I dont have a scanmaster yet and I suspect that it could be bad.
It seems to run rich more so at idle.
When it idles for a while the SES light comes on but when i rev it up it goes out.
The only error code in the computer is the code 44 (or 42) cant remember off hand but it is the code that says it is running rich.

The IAC seems to be working fine.
It idles up when cold and begins to idle down after about 45 to 60 seconds so I think it is working.
My guess is these cars have a very common problem so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Theres really no way to know anything unless you have a scan tool. You're poking around in the dark without it. You cant say the IAC "seems fine" without numbers. Lower your fuel pressure 5psi and turn your boost down to 12psi and see if it helps in the meantime. But get the scanmaster right away. You can find a used one on ebay or in the parts forum here. Its the first thing I ever bought for my car and Im glad I did. It barely ran when I got the car, and without the scanmaster, I never would have been able to get it running well. If your MAF is bad, it will buck and misfire severely...you can barely drive it and code 34 will pop up immediately.
I suspect you have a spread with your blm's between idle and cruising rpm's like my car. Ive always been rich at idle and leaner under cruise. Every possible scenario has been addressed so I dont know why its like that. When I'm in stop and go traffic and it idles alot, my rich code pops up because my BLM's peg out at 90 alot of the time. But while cruising, Im at a perfect 128...if I adjust the BLM offset on my extender chip down to run leaner. I just replaced my MAF (when its bad you'll know it) so we'll see tonight if that issue has gone away but I doubt it. I have a feeling my injectors dont flow what they are supposed to. Ive seen the part numbers for MSD 50's but those numbers dont exist on my injectors. They are the black and olive green ones but that doesnt guarantee they're 50's.
Does the motor shake at all at idle, or have an off idle misfire or stumble? Pull each spark plug out 1 at a time and inspect. Then you can see if there is a rich/lean trend in 1 cylinder or all of them.
