Anybody have the MaxEffort 16 position Thumbwheel? I need instructions on how to lower fuel curve in the lower rpm range. Not sure what the adjustments, or ranges are. I looked on his site and im just confused on how to use this thing. I emailed Maxeffort but hes on vacation and i wanna play with it this weekend.

1 is idle fule
5 is cruise fuel

NOW, I think it's position 3 for 0-4000.
Ac on (down #), ac off (up #) (ac MUST have a charge, or you can just jump the pressure switch)
key on, engine off
put the car in gear (rev or dr., doesn't matter)
push down on the gas...one push = one #.
Lower = less fuel
higher=more fuel
If you don't have a scan tool, get one and DON't adjust the ME with out one.

Get an instruction manual ASAP...you'll be lost with out one.

First off, until it is clear in your head how the chip works, programs and is adjusted [both KOEO and running] I would use your back-up chip cause your liable to do more damage than good by guessing how to work it. This chip is absolutely awesome and works phenomenally when adjusted by a knowlegable person, or one who understands how it works. Go back to Steve's web-site and re-read a few pages...the light will come on I assure you and if not, wait till he's back from holidays dude.

Ok im gonna try to wait, but i know me i might fool around with it. I know this thing is awsome, but i just need to get a better understanding of it.

I just want to take some of the FP out under low acceleration, I just think its too rich cuz it leaves big clouds off black smoke when i start to get into not at WOT just part throttle, so I thought it was rich on the bottom.
Thumbwheel pos #3 is 0-4000 power enrichment. Now i have never messed with this and the car came with the thumbwheel. It says the limit is 0-32. how do i even know where im at in the first place. if i wanted to start at 0 how do i get there? or should i just press the gas pedal 32 times and that would put me at 32 since thats the max and work my way down, by taking the numbers out. if thats it then thats all i really need to know. thanksx again guys.

If you unhook the ecm wire (small orange wire/blck connector) at the battery, this will put the chip back to default settings.
If the ME16 you have is for the combo you have, this should be fairly close (Steve Y is very good at what he does)
Do that and drive it....see where you are at....

You DONot really want to go to zero...that would be way to lean.

Youo know where you're at by looking at your scan tool. Where it displays it settings is different on different scan tools...I can't even remember where it displays on mine....but it displays. As you switch through the settings, it will change the number showing what # you're at. It will also change as you adjust the chip.

The ME is a very simple setup to use BUT it is very confusing at first...initially overwhelming...after you "get it" you'll love the chip....you really need to read EVERYTHING EVERYWhere you can....The lightbulb will come on :D

Here's the ME message boardand site address:

Read read read....

If you DON"T have a scan tool, leave the chip in it's defaults until you do (disconnect the ecm power wire)
If you don't have directions, leave it in default as well...

I am assuming you have a scanmaster. the thumbwheel position reads out on the integrator (int) function, and the actual value of that position reads on block learn (bl or blm i forget). this is of course with the engine NOT running. to change the values of any position, turn the key to "on" and put shifter in "D". with A/C off, one depression of the gas pedal adds 1 number to the value. A/C on takes one away. Your AC must be charged for you to take numbers out because the pressure switch needs to be activated for it to work. Otherwise you have to manually jump the switch to take numbers out. After you get it adjusted once, you shouldnt have to mess with it again. Hope this helps.

So these thumbwheel positions and parameters will read on my scan tool then. I just have the scan master. So I'll be able to see these readings there right. im sure once i get this ill have a better understanding. So if I set the thumbwheel on position #3 then look on my scan tool somewhere, it will show me the reading or where im at on that position? Other wise can i just do what i posted before and press the pedal 32 times to know im at the highest level and take it down from there. Steve said take it from 16-32. He emailed earlier before he left for vacation. but again the reading will show on the scan tool , am i understanding you right, is that true for all the other setting, if so this should be a lot easier.

You seem to understand fine! remember the values only read out when the engine is not running and the key in the on position. When its running the normal scanmaster readings are there. pretty cool huh?

Oh I see the light is going off already, this board is the Shyt. Everybody on here is so knowledgable and helpful. Soon as i get home Im going to mess around with it a lil and make sure i got it down packed. One last thing, you guys think Im diagnosing the problem right though. Hate to change the Power enrichment mode and thats not even the problem you know. Problem again is big puffs of black smoke under part throttle acceleration. Any other recomedations from you gurus?

Make sure reset it to default FIRST, then drive it...it could be adjusted WAY out of wack.

If it still seems rich, dial the #s out of position 3....take out 3 at a time....little by little...you'll get it

Yeah I would definitley start with the default settings. personally, I have never messed with anything except the WOT setting. Steve usually hits these things right on the head with the default settings IF the chip was indeed burned for your current set-up.

Heys guys how do I jump the A/c pressure switch, because my AC obviously isnt charged cuz i cant take the numbers out. Now my setting are way off and i need to take some numbers out. Please help me out guys. Car is supper rich now. It was at 10 now its at 15. I thought i could take the numbers out but i need to jump the pressure switch which i dont know how to do.
Please help me out guys!

at the receiver/dryer (cylinder shaped thing with aluminum tubes going to it on the passenger side up by the relays on the fender) there is a large round plug. Unplug it and jump a wire across the 2 connectors in the plug. This will simulate pressure in the line and allow you to subtract. Only leave the jumper in long enough to do your adjustments (down). If you want to leave it in for awhile, make sure to unplug the swithch at the a/c compressor.

Since it's ALL messed up, unplug the ECM wire again and start back at default.

Make a jumper from a short (2") piece of wire. Attach a male spade to each end.

There you have it. Pull off the connector for the pressure switch. Jump the connector. :)

Man thanx guys:D Now one last thing where do i disconnect the compressor? What does the connector look like?

Why do you need to disconnect the compressor? Or do you mean the pressure switch? If you are, then it's located near the firewall on the passenger side. The A/C lines are coming off of it. :)

Just jump the switch, adjust your numbers, then take the jumper wire off. See, the thing is if you leave it jumped and drive the car, the compressor will run and you dont want that if theres no pressure in the system. Thats what the pressure switch is for. You can leave the compressor connected just dont drive it around with the switch jumped.
