I know these garden hose type injectors can be rich regardless but I have been playing with the FP and "0" -idle fuel settings. I have my FP backed down to 38 PSI with the line off and my default "0" setting was 17. I tried these "0" settings with these results:

-17.... Rich enough to burn your eyes :D
- 13.... IAC stayed about 0-1 idle was 900-1000 in park, rich but better
- 9.... IAC stayed 3-8 idle the same, better but rich
- 4.... IAC stayed 12-15 idle the same, best so far but I get some hunting from 900-1250 RPM. More idle fuel should help the hunting. Plan on going up to 6 to cure the hunting.

On 4 it doesn't really smoke blue like it did on 17 but when I blip the throttle I get some blue smoke. Maybe just something you have to tolerate with these 83's or does someone have totally clean exhaust even when cracking it? If so post your settings. Thanks!

Oh, 02's on the Scanmaster showed .267- .280 at idle.

you are too lean jesse.my car runs perfect with the O2's about 750 or so at idle.mine is at position 8. you definetly should go up a few numbers.

Nick,

What injectors you have? Do you mean you are on thumbwheel position 8 or you have 8 numbers in thumbwheel position "0"? What is your idle RPM and IAC numbers at idle? Steve wants basically zero so everything is coming in through the TB.

i meant that i have 8 on postion "0".i have my iac set at 0 % so it is idleing at 850.

Jesse, I have always leaned my idle down to 8 or a bit less with the larger injectors. Steve seems to always default them higher than his smaller injector chips, but, I find the default way rich.

Not sure if that is always the case or just my experience. Look for pws around 1.7 ms or so.

Any more thoughts on this? I am thinking my cam sensor may be off a little. Think this could be making me a little rich?

I tried 8 on pos 0 the other day, the car won't even run. I"m trying 20 on pos 0 now for a few days, seems good. Getting great mileage.

Is the translator set to 2, lean?

I am wondering if taking a screen out will lean you out?

Is that a 3.5 airmeter with a late model translator box?

I have not had any reports of rich idle with large injectors and a translator is why I ask.

Can you take numbers out till it does not want to idle good, then put a few back in and it seems ok?
If so, it is the injectors being irratic, some are lean and some are rich at idle.
If this is the case you will either have to live with it or go to a smaller injector....

Russ has the mafless R which has differant idle base setting. An 8 would not work in his car.

Steve,

3.5" meter used with the very early style translator with no dip switches. I turned the setting inside the box to 1 which is the leanest 3.5" setting. I can take the numbers down until it hunts like you talk about. Right now I am on 8 and it seems pretty decent. You may be right that I will have to live with it. I plan on reinstalling the cam sensor to see if that helps.
Will taking out one screen in the MAF hurt anything?

I dont think that your idle fuel will be even close to lean enough with a screen in the MAF. I believe the MAF needs to be totally screenless.

Intercooler just said it.......he can lean it out till it hunts. Richen back up and it idles smooth..
He has irratic injectors around idle. Some are way lean and others overrich I suspect.
So, if you richen up to make the lean ones supply enough fuel, others will be overrich. BUT, it will idle good. And burn your eyes a little :)
On top of that the spray pattern is not real good at low PW's.

Somewhere up the list, he mentioned o2s in the 200's, I believe. Way lean even if you discount the value of oem o2s. I have always idled mine between 700-800.

02's are irrelevant because the temp at idle is too cool sometimes.
...IMO.

You guys are gonna drive me nuts with that 02 stuff, throw that damn thing away and put a wide band on it if you insist on looking at 02's. Other than that forget it, I don't want to hear about 02's at idle anymore :) It could read 700 one time and 200 the next depending on if it is idleing in the driveway or you just came off the expressway.

Intercooler takes fuel away and it doesn't idle well. Puts fuel back and it idles well.......What is the logical thing to do here?

I am thinking about quitting  Then I won't have any money and will have to move me and the Russian (along with her friend so she can have someone to talk to) down to TX and move in with Steve W. He has supported everybody through the years so now he can support us and I will do odd jobs around the farm as long as it doesn't require much thought. My thoughts will consist of birds and toads and that rabbit that just ran behind the barn....wondering if I can get him with my slingshot.

It will be a simple life. No more 02 sensors. No more headgaskets.
No more arguing with Russ Merritt.

LOL

I don't think cam sensor will make the car idle better. But I won't hurt to try.

I just installed the ME along with 83's about a month ago and Im having some idle issues also. When you talk about idle do you put the TW in position 0 and adjust it from there.

Thanks

Yup. What issues does yours have? It works great but if I had to sit in traffic for a while the person next to me may not like me:D
