Max power 8.5 rear diff can handle

I'm going to be putting down over 800 could come close to 1,000 what are the options. Will still be driven on the street I have a good opportunity to buy a curry 9 inch but don't know it's limits or if it's worth it?

you would be crazy not to put a 9" inch just on the aspect of having c clip eliminators and the cost to build a 8.5 up to that limit just isn't worth it. You plan on making that power with a 6?

cotton pumkin is on an 8.5" at over 1000hp and launched hard on slicks with a tbrake . 33s/spool eliminators and a girdle cover
but thats not to say a 9" shouldnt be there at that level ,
on the street expecting it to survive depends on how much you slip and grip the tires

Watched a 9" on a S10 explode on Pinks TV.
The GS was faster & took the pink slip.

The power level isn't nearly as important as to how you're going to be launching the car. If you have the means I would just do the 9" but if the car isn't going to see the track on slicks you'll probably fine at least for a while.

I have run an 8.5 on a 1200HP car.

I currently have one under my street car @ 830HP.

The 1200HP car had an F2 procharger...It had to leave on a launch curve with retarded timing to control spin, The sixty foot was only 1.40's

The 830HP car has a transbrake but I dont use it. I footbrake the car in the 1.40's.

33 spline, c-clip, moser spool, lots of bracing....

It has lasted 2 seasons so far.

If you have a stock 8.5 you might as well start with the 9"
