I have just recently got a ME 8 position chip. 1 problem so far. I have set the FP per instructions for 48 psi. on pos#2 the richest setting for 93 octane I can only get a 1349 EGT reading. I started w/17lbs of boost and got 1*KR,so I turned the boost down to 16 and got 0 KR but cannot seem to get enough fuel for an acceptable EGT reading. Should I raise the base FP or adjust some numbers somewhere? I am not too sure as the instructions say to put the FP at 46 to 48 psi. also at the top of 2nd and the top of 3rd gear it feels like it is running out of fuel as I can feel a surge in performance. It feels like it is trying to go but doesn't have enough fuel. My FP at wot is 63 psi. I am new to this setup so any advice would be appreciated.

dunno what you mean by an "acceptable" egt.....1369 doesn't sound that bad for low timing and boost at WOT

adding fuel should make your egt go down (richer).....if adding fuel makes your egt go up, then you are way rich and getting an inaccurate reading (you need to increase boost or decrease fuel)

if you change fuel pressure, keep it within the range specified by Steve....once set, you shouldn't have to adjust it again

I was trying to get to the 1550 to 1600 EGT range as per the instructions but don't know how to get there.
I think I am lost. Let me get this straight. Less fuel = higher EGT? or More boost = higher EGT? or both?
I am wondering if the 1550 to 1600 range is for racing fuel. What do you think. Is this a good target for 93 Octane?
Help I am a dumbass! First time w/a Me, first time w/an EGT

Thats probably too much FP, drop it to about 43 psi and see what happens

Yes running rich will lower EGT, due to the excess fuel not burning and lowering combustion temps

Running lean will raise EGT which is why running lean melts pistons, blows HG's, etc. Not enough fuel to cool the chamber. This is why alcohol injection works

I sent you an email a couple of days ago explaining all of this....forget egt on straight 93 and watch the knock detector......
I just turn the boost up till I get a little knock and back it off some.
It could knock with 93 at any given egt, depending on your setup.

Don't mess with the base FP, keep it where the directions say to.

Move the TW position to 1 and see what happens.

I didn't get your email Steve. I figured you might have been out for the weekend or something. My wife may have deleted it. I did not lower the fuel pressure. I decided to stay with the 46psi as per directions. In position 1 I am getting 0 KR and EGT reads1300 peak at WOT. So forget the EGT gauge when running 93? Guess I have it right and didn't know it. I was running 17 boost and backed it off to 16 so I get no KR. Is there any other tweaking I can do With the numbers to run more boost without KR on 93 Octane? Or is this pretty much the limit?
i am gonna mix up a home brew 100 Octane. Any good starting points on the thumbwheel? Can I tune w/the EGT here and what readings to look for?

Well,

Try to find out how that 8 pos was set up. I suspect pos's 1 and 2 are 18 degrees whereas pos 1 is leaner that 2 at wot.

You can switch between the 2 and watch the KR. Pos 1 might be best then turn the boost up till you have a little problem and back off.....That's about it without water/alcohol injection.

When you find the boost you can live with then you might take a look at egt or 02....it is a relative thing with pump gas.

I never had any luck with anything other than KR and the seat of my pants on pump gas, and acually I never had much luck with that either so I went to water/methanol.

Let me know,

Steve

Listen to Steve on this...it's his baby and no one knows it better. ANYTIME you have problems, e-mail him, he'll point you in the right direction everytime. I'd imagine he's messed up adjustments more than anyone over the years which means he knows how to do it right!
