My brother-in-law was the sound engineer for Pantara for many years. He toured all over the world with them. If you watch some of the "behind the scenes" videos that they sell, he is in all of them. If you see the one where a guy is whining about getting shot in the eye with a bottle rocket, thats my brother in law. He in turn stuck a pigs head in the toilet to wake them up when they went to the bathroom. He has 4 or 5 platinum ablums hanging on the walls of thier house.

His resume reads like a "who's who" of '80's metal and hair bands! :D

No joke, man. I've been listening to Meshuggah for 7 or 8 years now, and they just refuse to get stale. I remember the first song I heard was 'Humiliative' (still my favorite) on a college radio station out of Romeoville,IL. and I immediately called them up screaming 'who in the hell was that?!'. Notice how 'Future Breed Machine' sounds new no matter how many times you hear it? I still haven't taken 'Nothing' out of the stereo since it came out.
INGENTING!!!!!!!!

The vocalist for Meshuggah is just completely inhuman - I never heard anybody scream "in tune" like that before.

Chaosphere!

Their lead guitarist always reminded me of a hardcore Alan Holdsworth. Very talented.

Yeah, and they got tired of that 7-string guitar crap and are now (as far as I know) the only band having Ibanez make them custom 8 stringers!

Who said Killswitch Engage? Good one! If this was a real lounge I'd buy you a beer. :D

I checked out their website and listened to a couple of the demo downloads they have and it's pretty killer stuff!

Time to go look up some of the other bands listed here I've never heard of.

Hahaha, I know exactly what part you're talking about!

Anybody got the Texas Chainsaw Massacre soundtrack yet? I hear it's killer and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.

It's not that you suck....I realized long ago that if you aren't practicing on stuff that you aren't good enough to play then you'll never get any better. I've been playing for close to 11 years and all I ever do is try to play the freaky chit that Buckethead does without much luck. Get the sheet music/tab to 'Eugene's Trick Bag' and jam on that! I still can't play it perfectly (and I've been trying for 2 years!) but it has made me SO MUCH better! (For anyone who doesn't know about this Steve Vai work of magic, watch the 1986 movie 'Crossroads' w/ Ralph Macchio...it's the guitar duel at the end.)

Can you believe that there are still morons out there who love (enter Beatles, 'Zep, whatever) and try and pass the music on this thread off as just a bunch of noise?!

i have been playing guitar for about 5 years now, but recently i have been neglecting my stuff, i need to get back into it before i loose all my skills. i used to be able to pick stuff up by ear, now i am like, uh, i wonder where i can find tabs for this....

what kind of guitars do you guys have? ii hvae 4. i have my moms hippy classic acoustic guitar from the 60/70's, a Epiphone SG, a Slammer by Hamer knock of Strat and a Gibson SG gothic., for an amp i have a marshall half stack, but i am thinking of ditching that and getting something smaller...

the slammer guitar that i have, i got it for about 160 bucks when i was in 8th grade, it was my first electric guitar, so i just got something cheap that i pratice on and decide if i liked it. about a year after i got it, i got pissed at some one threw it down and popped the bridge out, and cracked the neck... so it sat in a corner for a while. then about a year ago, i picked it up again and turned it into a 'frankenstein' guitar. i went to Mars and got a Seymour Duncan Humbucker pickup, pulled out the middle single coil pickup out of it, dremeled out the wood and stuffed the humbucker in, and now, this guitar sounds MEAN... it almost sounds better then my SG, athough, i did have to alter a lot to get the thing together in. for instance the bridge is bolted in now, (no more wammy bar)

I play a Jackson Dinky....going to a death metal distortion pedal connected to either a Marshall amp or a Mesa Boogie...

My guitar has a very low cruchy sound to it perfect for the music I like to play...death or black metal...

hoping to pick up a PRS guitar but at 3500 dollars I am having a problem spending the money....I could do alot of upgrades to the Turbo T.....;)

Where does Clutch, GBH and Rage Against The Machine fit in? No one mentioned OLD Anthrax and Iron Maiden.

Although I was never much of a 'Maiden fan, the old Anthrax is a good point. I've been going back lately and buying up a bunch of the stuff I was listening to when I was a teenager. I usually have to search the used bins for most of it. In the last couple of weeks, I've bought the following old school albums:

Anthrax, State Of Euphoria
Testament, Souls Of Black
Infectious Grooves, The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move....
Gruntruck, Push (I had to Ebay for that one)
Slayer, Seasons In The Abyss
Biohazard, State Of The World Address
....and many more will follow those....

Just wondering, why haven't I heard anybody mention Deicide yet?
