I like Black Sabbath myself.....even though they are a little before my time...;)

Slayer concert tomorrow night here in Salt Lake...:D

I can't believe how little is known about Sepultura by some people. Did somebody say that 'Roots' was thier first album? What about 'Schizophrenia','Morbid Visions', 'Chaos A.D.', 'Arise'....etc.?(Nor was 'Beneath the Remains' their first.) If that many people are unfamiliar with that stuff, they need to go back and listen to some of the most important metal of the 80's and 90's. Max Cavalera has always been just a few steps ahead of the industry...just as Soulfly is now, Sepultura was 15 years ago. Actually, very few are aware of it, but Sepultura was nominated for a Grammy for a B-side of theirs called 'Orgasmatron' back in like '92 or so. The reason Max left his brother Igor and the rest of the band is because his wife, Gloria, was the manager and the band wanted to fire her, so Max said 'F**k you guys', choosing his wife over his band. I've seen the new video for Sepultura's 'Bullet the Blue Sky' and that's a shame that they have gone so p*ssy and bland. Is this the freakin' Twilight Zone or something?! When we were kids, songs like 'Dead Embryonic Cells' and 'Territory' were the SH!T!!

As long as we're goin' old-school here, when I was a kid Suicidal Tendencies was the coolest band on the planet.

As for Pantera's old, old stuff....yeah, when Phil joined he really kicked the band in the a$$. If anybody here is unaware, they need to know that Pantera was a glam band and some of those old pictures of Rex, Darrell and Vinnie (before Phil joined) are hilarious....with them all wearing leopard-skin spandex and making kissy faces...they were sassier than Poison! LOL

yeah, that's the "b" side on the dead embryonic cells single...it's a motorhead cover, and it's one of the truly heaviest songs EVER...

strangely enough,it was also the #1 song on the brazilian charts at the time...

Finally, someone knows! Right on!

Morbid Visions was the first....though they did a split album with a band called Overdose in Brazil before that....

But if you liked Sepultura you should check out Krisun...also from Brazil..

I have a few tracks of Krisun I got from some sample CD that was being handed out at Best Buy if you bought a CD player or something like that. Have never seen a CD of theirs in stores though.

When Phil joined, still were still stuck in the glam rut. They even redid "Down Below" which is one of my favorite songs. Gotta admit though, they were/are way above Poison in talent, especially "Diamond Darrell". His abilities are way above what's-his-name from Poison. (Never liked Poison). I get into the music that has some thought behind it guitar-wise...not just 3 chords and some incomprehensible vocals. I was heavily into VH until I heard of Pantera and the guitar just blew me away. I've been playing since I was in 6th grade and just love the heavier stuff compared to what is played on the radio nowadays.
:o

I'm surprised to see so many other people on this board that listen to this type of music! I just bought a new Beneath the Remains CD (since my first was stolen when the GN was stolen the first time).

I'll be seeing Slayer for like the 9th or 10th time on Thursday, and I'm just as excited to see them this time as I was the first time! They sound just as good, if not better, live as they do on CD.

Anybody know what happened to the band Vision of Disorder (or VOD for those in the know)?

BTW Dimmu Borgir is bad ass!

That's pretty funny. I pretty much know where that is. Next time the wife and I are in the area, we'll look you up. We were going to head up to Albq. for merry thanksgiveween but plans changed so we are staying here. Maybe around Christmas time we'll be up there.

This is my favorite thread ever!

So what about Nailbomb? Any Sepultura fans have any Nailbomb stuff? There was only one album, they recorded if memory serves correctly.

Lance got me into a really cool band called Symphony X. Anyone familiar with them? Not quite speed metal, but they have some pretty heavy stuff and they mix it with a classically-oriented style in a killer way. More talent packed into this band than most stuff you will ever hear. www.symphonyx.com if you like that sort of thing... kinda like Dream Theater on steroids.

More to the subject, some other heavy metal faves of mine, from the "old" days till the present:

Cannibal Corpse
Kreator
Fear Factory
Carcass
Suffocation
Death
Deicide
Malevolent Creation
Coroner
Morbid Angel
Korn
Sevendust
Rammstein
Prong
Flotsam and Jetsam

I could go on and on...

Yeah, 'Point Blank' was Nailbomb's only LP and they released an EP entitled 'Proud to Commit Commercial Suicide'. It was a project of Max Cavalera and Alex Newport (?) of Fudge Tunnel.

Yes another Carcass fan......Mike Amott from Carcass now plays with Arch Enemy...FYI..;)
Yeah, but I don't think anything I've heard of Arch Enemy comes close to what Carcass did. I still listen to 'Necrotism, Descanting the Insalubrious' at least a couple times a week. Anybody who hasn't in the last day or two sould check out fearfactory.com, they've announced the new member, the name of the new album, etc. Way friggin' cool, I've been a die hard FF fan since they started about 12 years ago.

Some stuff I'm listening to right now:

Arch Enemy (if you dig Carcass, you'll dig them - same guitarist and the drummer is completely insane)
Meshuggah (nothing heavier - just completely ridiculous)
Nevermore
Killswitch Engage (new singer is freakin' sick)
old school At the Gates
old school Death

I'm more into the prog stuff like Symphony X/Dream Theater, but those are some of the heavier bands I'm listening to at this time.....

oops.,.didn't read the whole thread so I mentioned Arch Enemy like nobody had ever heard of them before.

I think Arch Enemy is just as heavy but a bit more melodic than Carcass. I think the strong point of that band is the drummer though - Amott is a talented guitarist (in fact, I like him a lot because he doesn't overplay even though he has the chops to really shred throughout a tune).

Sweden does grow some great hardcore metal bands man. It's like they grow on trees over there.
