if your kit is a razors kit , be sure the methanol does not have lube in it, and make sure that they dont use a transfer pump that was used for fuel or other petroleum products

It can. Santoprene is not rated on petroleum products. Actually I have not seen a bad valve in years.. we use a custom one.. the problem is the diaphram the valve rides on is Santoprene. The other option is Geolast. Both are not rated for petroleum.
Can/will/could oil/fuel cuase an issue.. Yes. 95% of the pump failures I see are fuel contamination related.
