Heres a good one
Got an 86 GN and there is no antenna (sp ? ?)
Anyway looks like at some point the front passenger fender was replaced
(probably got smacked) and there is no antenna and there is no hole in the fender for one either.
The RPO says it was a power antenna car.
My question is, short of taking the whole fender off is there a sneaky way to at least to get a non power antenna in there ?
Also anyone got any ideas or have one for sale ?

Thanks
Steve

antenna

Drill a hole, secure base, run cable. Try a new complete GM replacement - non-power.

yeah i figured on a non power one
do you know do you have to pull the entire fender to get to it ?

Why not try the real sneaky way and place the non power antenna underneath the plastic dash cover just layed down flush? Not sure on the reception, but it beats having to take the fender off and drill a hole just to install the antenna.
Just a thought.

You need a good ground plane and line of sight not enclosed in metal (such as in the trunk or under the hood) for an antenna to work decently.

Either a stick on windshield JC Whitney add on  or try a good ground hidden in the dash up near the windshield.

A good ground to the body of the car is very important which is why the factory mounts bite into the body directly for a good ground plane.

Maybe the rear window with a good ground plane would also work.

My power antenna is in the crapper, mast is broken and motor is shot. Is their a non power one that I can replace with on my 87 GN

piece of cake...this is the way I do it.....undo all the 10mm bolts in the door jamb and the 15mm bolt at the bottom of the fender under the car by the door. Then unbolt the 10mm wheelwell bolts above your tire. This allows the fender to be pulled out just far enough to sneak the unit in from below. Use a stretched out coat hanger and drop it in through the antenna hole in the top of the fender to grab the onto the top of the antenna to assist in pulling it up into position and be able to get the nut bezel onto the antenna. It's really easier that it sounds, just be cautious about the paint...I use masking tape or such around the door and fender edge to ensure that I don't scratch the paint using the 10mm wrench in the door jamb bolts

I found this very helpful

Kirban's sells an 8" black one and guarantee's great reception or you can go to the dealership or ebay and purchase a factory look alike.

The power antenna died and the hole was covered over. I'll bet the broken power antenna is still inside the fender. Where did you find this car?

I think the entire fender was replaced, but not sure.
It could have also been covered up in place like you said
I found this one in North Carolina
I looked for over a year for one and just happened upon one that was sitting and the owner wanted it out of the garage

I was curious because I have done this to 2 GN's. One in FL and one currently in my possession
