Hey, guys. new to the site. just got my first Buick GN!! been wanting one of these black beuties for over ten years! it's an all stock, completely unmolested ( or so I'v been told) '86 perfect original black paint ( some crazing starting on top of the hood, I'v read this is normal) sitting on it's second set of Goodyear GT 2's. a real garage queen! It's been autographed by Molly two times, once in '02 and in '07. how did the original owner get those autographs? Ok, my question is- it has a Mobile One factory fill plate on the rad support that looks original, but I'v never herd of these coming off the assy line with mobile one. is this original? no one I talk to seems to know.
Thanks.

Congrats on the new addition! Factory paint was not the best, my hood, trunk, and roof are now showing their age:eek:

take a picture of the plate if you can, i have never noticed any mobil 1 plates but then again i guess i never really looked!

Welcome to the site!

My 86 (my original one owner) has no such plate. Can you supply a picture?

Thanks, John. yea no one I have asked so far knows. I'll try to get a pic on tonight. that Molly autograph, is that really such a big deal? the original owner said that it's real hard to get and to make sure they never get wipped off the RPO sticker. I'v tried to get info on that guy and can't find any.

Thanks turbodave, yea I thought so. I don't know much about gn's yet, but I thought that was'nt original. is that a boxer in your pic?

Buick never officialy specified Mobil 1 for these cars, so that label is an add-on. (later model Corvette maybe?)

Kirban used to sell (maybe he still does) those Mobil One plates. Might explain the Molly signatures if there are a lot of Kirban products on board. Are you in PA area?

Mike

Yes it is. That's our beloved "Candy". We lost her to old age and stomach cancer back in June.

Thats my guess! He did sell them 100% I know that Molly is at his place every year for the meet & signs stuff. Not worth anything to 99% of the people that own these cars.

Man sorry to hear that! we have a boxer too "percila" she's ten and starting to have problems with her hind legs. too bad they don't live forever!

Yes, as a mater of fact I do live in PA. man, learned a ton allready! this is great! thanks for all the quick responce guys.

Molly did the signatures at the reunion events and his anniversary event last year. He signed my '86 last year, and my old WH-1 back in '02 before I bought it in '04.

As for the Mobil-1 emblem, Ive never seen them on a GN/TR personally, but have seen them for sale in Kirban's catalog.

Man, I'm glad I found this website, you guys are great! I'm no stranger to speed, but I am very much a stranger to buick GN's. allready did the "spring cleaning" and the car runs great. I want to make the car faster but stock apperence is of utmost importance to me! low 12's high 11's should be possible looking stock you guys think?

last car:
85 mustang hatch back
347, holley 750, tremec 5 speed, 200hp big shot , 3;73's, 3' exhaust.
11.17@ 122mph through the mufflers

first define stock appearing:) under the hood, or on the outside? bigger turbos, intercooler and an alcohol line does not always look stock when you pop the hood:eek:

Well, stock looking onthe outside and under the hood. maybe other than some drag radials and exhaust system on the outside, but under the hood I want as much performance as I can get on stock looks and pump gas, stock airbox ( I know I'm asking alot), retain my turbo heat shield and stock intercooler. would like to use the stock turbo being it's in great shape. the car is pushing 13 psi boost now and feels great, not a hickup or anything. never the less still feels like a low 14 sec or high 13 sec car.

oh, the only dissapointment so far is the open rear. I thought all these had limmeted slips in them. I guss not

In 86, limited slip (option code G80) was an option.

You would be hard pressed to find someone outside the turbo buick world that even knows what a stock engine looks like anymore. But...what I think you want to do is VERY cool. Going to be tough on pump gas (without alky).

Follow Richard Clark's new race class and I think you will find what you are looking for.

With that kind of prize money I think things will get a little faster...

Good luck,
Mike
