Coates stuff has been around for a while. Not alot of interest from the OEM, so it must have issues. Read up on it on speedtalk.com and there is so many advantages with a poppet valve design. Four valve heads have advantages and disadvantages. Look into the development of the GenIII mall GM block. They tried the multivalve approach but the gains didn't outweigh the unit costs. The LS engines are doing amazing things with a simple two valve design. If the Coats design was a huge gain, the OEM would flock to it. There has to be a significant drag on all those seals. How much power would it take to turn just one of those "rotary ports"?

My bud had a pair of that "Coates design" on a sbc in a 40 Ford p/u nearly 40 yrs ago...
His partner died, and the wife dumped the patterns, etc, in the trash....

They look like a bargain compared to the price of the engine it would take to take advantage of them
