modifying stock intake

I have justed hacked some serious metal out of the stock intake, and am ready to create a front entry doghouse like the Turbomotion kit. Does anyone have any insights/recommendations about thickness of new material? I am considering 1/4" IS this too thick?

Well, I'm building some intakes for R&D right now and I'm using .125" and .187" 5052 aluminum. I will say this. If you've never built an intake before, you can create some SERIOUS air distribution problems. Be careful how you shape the inlet and plenum. Good luck.
