Modine 951 F-Body Radiator on a HA.
Been running this for about 4 years, no issues, but I have two questions.

1- How have you guys and gals been dealing with the 3/4" hose connection below the radiator inlet? (Besides just a rubber cap) Been thinking about running a hose from the heater outlet on the water pump to this connection.

2- Anyone know of a fan shroud for this radiator for a HA set-up? The shroud should be about 10-12" deep and fit this radiator. I am looking for a "clean set-up".

WOW, no one has done/thought about this uh?

When I did my 84T, I used an 87 TB fan on the car to eliminate the fan clutch completely. Made for a cleaner look with the hood open and it cooled great. You might be able to get a fan shroud off a Cutlass. I put the dual fan setup on my wife's 86 442 and the fan shroud is not quite as deep as you are looking for but that is about the only one I have seen for the wider radiator.

When I did the conversion, I went ahead and put on a set of the Ramchargers dual electric fans. It really opened up a LOT of space under the hood, made it quite a bit easier to work on the motor (I could actually stand between the engine and rad to get a good angle on some things:) ) I assume you are looking for a shroud that'll fit the stock mechanical fan? I don't know of any off the top of my head, but when I was combing junk yards for the proper radiator hold down plate for the f-body rad, I was surprised at the variety of shrouds in similar sized GM cars... you may get lucky figuring out the dimensions you need and strolling the local you-pull-it with a tape measure. I'd be surprised if you didn't find something you could make work that looked factory.

Then again, I look for any excuse to spend a few hours in the junkyard, so maybe I'm biased :)

As for the extra port in the rad, I also just put a cap and a hose clamp on it.

Thanks fellas.
Took some measurements and I'll come up with a plan.

if you want to keep the stock fan, then try to find a G body that has a V6 bit with the big radiator. when i put the bigger Cutlass radiator and top plate in my car, i wanted to keep the stock clutch fan. i looked under the hoods of dozens of g bodies in a junkyard, and didn't find a single one that had a V6 with the big radiator. there were a lot of B bodies with that combo, but those use a wider radiator and the shroud/rad hold down was one piece on those. i was ready to get a V8 Cutlass fan shroud and extend it like the old Monte Carlos did, but i found my ultimate solution when i popped the hood on a Regal and found a 16" Hayden electric fan that was wired in with a house light switch. i got the fan for $10 and put it in (without the light switch- i got an actual wiring kit). i had it hooked up to a toggle switch until i overheated the car one time, then i wired it up to turn it on full time. but now that i've got an 87 ecm, i use that to turn the fan on. i think the turbo tweak chip turns it on at 180 degrees.
problem solved.

Thanks Derrik.

I have been runing a dual electric pusher fans for a number of years, controlled by the TT chip, but in the summer, I add the mechanical fan for three reasons;
1-Added AC performance.
2-Added cooling performance.
3-Added air flow under the hood to reduce underhood temps and "extend the hood paint life".

when people use the f-bod radiator, what are they using from? where can I find one? are these older camaro/firebird rads? I have some other parts laying around to help with the cooling (pair of fans and such), but I wanted to upgrade the rad...

I believe they are from late 80s or early 90s f-bodies... I'm in the lab right now, so don't know exactly what years/options you need to look for. What I did was find the appropriate part number and bought one new from autozone. It was like cheap (like 80-90 bucks if i remember), and even came with a warranty:)

When I get home I'll look up the part number in my records and post it here unless someone beats me to it.

awesome! thanks!!!!

Ive been around these things for a while, heard all teh discussion, but my memory is so shot lately (newborn!!!), I cant remember what I did for dinner last night!!! lol

I think it was like 87-92 f-body, but I dont remember at all!!! I want to get it asap tho...just got the car/motor/trans to the shop!!! Just gotta clean-up and assemble!!

This thread that I done on the F-Body radiator will answer some of your questions.

Good write-up, thanks!
I have the Modine 951 and it works GREAT!
Not the best for on a HA IMHO, but performance to price ratio is bar none!

I am thinking there are several radiators out there being used.
Will post a pic later of the 3/4 honse connection I am referring to, and, to see if anyone else has this.

that hose fitting was used for the return fitting from the heater core in Camaros.
if you wanted to actually use it for something instead of just capping it, you could get rid of the stock overflow tank and replace it with a pressurized expansion tank hooked up to that port. put a really high rated cap on the radiator- like a 22 pounder- with a 15 pound cap on the expansion tank. this would purge all air out thru the expansion tank like they do on pretty much every new car made in the last 10 years.
i don't know if it's any better, but it is an option.
