This is my DD that I seldom even boost but was thinking about upgrades.
I was thinking of a ZZP downpipe with the cat and an open air K&N.
I did not want to do a pulley change.

Is the DP worth it or just get the u-bend delete?

Thanks

From what I have read, the downpipe is one of the best mods you can do and is well worth it. It will be the next thing I do to mine.

downpipe & cold air intake completely change the demeanor of these cars without requiring a tune or making any exhaust noise - use caution once you do it you WILL want more:biggrin:

make the intake draw from the fenderwell or put it in a box behind the headlight , use 4" rubber tubing or 4" thinwall pvc tubing - do not use metal tubing as it will heat soak and stick your K&N cone filter on the end of the tubing.

you can also use a plastic w/rubber insert roof flashing from home depot to seal the filter completely from warm underhood air

I added some foam backed reflective wrap to mine to insulate it further , the tubing I used was $10.50 a foot on zzp's website

hope this helps:

I have 21" of the above mentioned 4" flexible tubing/ducting for sale. Brand new in perfect condition.

$15 shipped ross87t@yahoo.com

My setup only required 15", so 21" would be plenty to make a FWI.

I am in the same boat you are. Which is pretty much doing every standard issue cheap bolt on mod out there, without increasing boost.
I've dug deep into murph's, and every other experts mind on the regal gs board, and I have a clear cut, defined path now. If you want the info, ask me.

its really nice to see so many GN owners buying regal gs's lately even if it is as daily drivers. Your boosted knowledge will help a lot with learning what makes sense to do safely.

I would love to see someone with alky injection & tuning experience show the L67 regal crowd how to make gains with alky in our application - its so quickly dismissed its a shame

I'm hoping to get julio on it. I have a thread on it now.

Hey murph... Do you see the difference between the crowd, and the mindset between our boards? I'm still suprised myself, that the L67 crowd isn't more advanced than they are. From seeing how fast our cars can max our injectors, I'm kinda at a loss to see soo many 14 second time slips.
I personally aim to change that in the summer of 2010.
This gap will close if I have anything to do with it.
And what do you mean "even if they are daily drivers." I'm not sure I understood the reasoning.

And I agree. The people here will eventually start to help. But indirectly. It will be from the L67 guys coming over to ask questions.
I, like 99% of us, came from the carbed V8 world. And I thought this fuel injected, forced induction deal would whoop my ass. I had no clue it was this easy. (fixing stockers, not tuning for tens. different requirements) From the TR world, I gained MUCH knowledge on a/f ratios, egt's, compression ratios, static/dynamic cylinder pressures, air velocity, accumulative restrictions, worthless mods & their reason, making the ecu lean or rich your air/fuel depending on the the requirements of the air temps you want, knock retard and it's behavior, etc etc. Theres no WAY you could learn this stuff messin around with a rochester bolted atop an sbc. At least not in the circles I hung out in lol.
I personally think the L67 cars, for the price, are the next best thing to a TR. They're a buick, so you know they're solid, and it's still a forced induction 3.8. Sure, there's other cars that are just as luxurious as a Regal, and just as fast, but not for the money. I got my very good condition GS for 3200. There's no other car in that price range that has the ride, comfort, and zippiness of a GS or GTP. Not in my opinion anyway.

And what do you mean "even if they are daily drivers." I'm not sure I understood the reasoning.

I meant that their GN/t type would be their baby and their gs was more of a d.d. /beater/winter type car - but you and I know that like a gn once you start modding them they get addictive because a couple little bolt ons completely change the demeanor of the car.

Oh yea, I know. But did you mean, "even if they are daily drivers" as a sort of a complaint, because you feel they shouldn't be? If so, I know what you mean. As I bought mine to be a daily driver and that's that. But then when I took physical possession of it, I was like "dam, this a bad ass ride.... now I don't wanna drive it!" And I'm still trying to figure out storing options, and a **** car for the winter. I do realize that these cars were punched out by the thousands...but they're not THAT easy to find around here anymore... Sort of making me think I gotta take care of this thing now. (which I will of course)
I know most people think buicks are old peoples cars, but I tell ya what. I don't care what ANYone thinks. This car is downright sporty, AND fast. I don't care how you look at it. It's sleek, and will suprise the **** outta you if you don't watch out. My car pulls pretty dam hard up top. I can't wait to race this bitch when I get home.

My GS was my wife's car that was bought new.
When she gets a new car, her old one becomes my DD.
I just added the open K&N like Ross did and I could tell the difference in gas mileage today.
I have a 3 in DR & a high flow cat on the way.
I have only gone WOT a couple times since I have owned the car and never from a stop.

High flow cats are ok, but depending on your location, some may fail the smog test. And, are quite a bit louder. You may not like that.

And, you said you have 3 inch dr? You're running 3 inch drag radials? lol dam man!

You can do higher flow headers, port and polish the intake and heads (i stay away from cam and lifters, as there is just too many threads on **** going wrong with those mods.)
replace the downpipe and u bend, cold air intake, 180 t stat, replace the anti-freeze with distilled water mixed with RMI-25, modded ecm, and stiffen up the body as well.
That in itself will make a nice car in my opinion, and not be permanently bound to 94 octane. Plus, with these mods, if you need to run 87 either because of availability or cash on hand, you're still covered.
