Damn there is alot of 1978's available. Were they that bad of car??

I bought one new. At that time, I couldn't get high octane gas and it knocked something terrible. Couldn't get any performance because of the poor gas. The constant knocking caused a lot
of them to crack pistons and such. Lots of engine failures! The gas is a lot better now than it was then. The engine failed in the one I had, but it was after I sold it. I bought a new T Type in
85 after I sold the 78.

I think that that first person is smoking crack...It is a very nice clean car but 12K...

I'll give them $500 for the ugly green one just for the looks and to piss off the kids when I make them ride in it :p

Wee-wee....Check out this French '79 Turbo Regal....

Jeez.....there all over the place are'nt they?

Anybody speak French?

(I used an online translator and I get the impression that this owner dislikes American cars. Of all things he would have to own a mint '79 Turbo with all the Xtras. Can he say Cruise Missle? One right up the ole French kazoo if he's ranking on America's favorite past time...).

Best I could translate, (my french is rusty) likes the car but has had some problems with it. It was imported into france in 1979 and he got it in 1997 after getting rid of his Pontiac Firebird and Chevy Camaro. He had problems with the Air Conditioning, and then had to have the motor rebuilt in 1999. Like I said, don't take my word for it, it has been a few years since I studied french.:D

Wasn't leaded gas still avaliable then:confused:
I'd take some good 'ole leaded anyday over this no-lead garbage.
I also believe Buick offered a water/alc. injection then also.
Sounds like they needed it.

Water injection kits weren't readily available, or non existeent. Holley finally did bring out a kit but there was not a good spot to mount the water bottle. I still have the kit. Burning leaded gas was not an option if you wanted to keep the thing stock (and legal).
The fuel injected 84's solved the problem with the computer and fuel injection, so I bought an 85. I knew a guy who did development work on this engine for Buick and he said that they used water injection to solve the problem, and, in fact there is
a water injection idiot light blank on the newer cars. (It was to let you know if the water level was low.) It was never incorporated on the production line, unfortunately.

"Freddie's Buick": I speak french

remember the Regal 79 from france? Hey guys I speak french as I live in Quebec, Canada so I will explain what the guy said about his car. It better than a translation done by some software because of the expressions. Scuse me for my bad english, I'm not as bilingual as I will.

The guy said he have a collection of BMW but to own an american car can you make to be different. So he was looking for a Trans Am or a Camaro when he saw the Buick and he fall in love with her!!! The car had 150 000km (93k miles aprox) and the radio was working well as he said !
So he bought the car in belgium in 1997 and he run with the car a little only since then. The problem is that there is no Buick Regal imported in France officially in 1979 (and since then neither). To have the right to run the car on the road, he would have to pass a technical control to have a derogation for all points that have the american standard. He failed the the control because of rust, oil leaking and bla bla bla. So he will wait a little to obtain the gray collection paper for the car when she 'll be 25y.o. For now, the car is rusting in peace in the parking lot....
parts are surely difficult to find there!!

Now that's funny! :D (Rusting away to get certified)!

Somehow I knew the Canadians would come through....

Yeah

:) Yeah for sure I'm canadian....
...and a buick lover too although I don't have any turbo buick but only a 78 Century 2dr with da famous 231.....you know the ugliest Buick ever. Anyway, it's my grand father gift...have 30k miles on it.So now I'm looking to find him 15'' rallye wheels, spoiler and a hood to make him look like the turbo coupe. Maybe someday I'm gonna put a 4.1 in it, fuel injected and all the turbo tech. For now, brake lines and headliner is in the project ! lol

You got a great car fred... I would like to have one like your in my parking lot....but not for rust in peace ! :D

Good ideas but keep the 231 .....do what I did, (just a suggestion),....it's cheaper with less inconvenience. ;)

Good Luck! :)

See........................ my french is as rusty as that turbo regal. :D Merci for the translation.

No kidding. Maybe I need to go live in Canada for another 5 years for a refresher course.:)
