Questions about the Translator/ Translator +

When you have the Reg. Trans., you CAN adjust your base fuel settings, but you CANNOT adjust your WOT fuel settings?

The only way you can adjust your WOT fuel settings with the Reg Trans. or the Trans. +, is if you have the extender chip?

If you have your own chip & want to be able to adjust the timing in it, you can do so if you have the Trans. + ?

The extender chip also allows for your Mass Air Flow Sensor to be able to read up to 512 Grams of air Instead of 255, so you can adjust the WOT fuel settings & it lets you be able to make your own chip & put whatever timing & fuel setting you want in it?

Ramchargers can put any other special features you want in the extender chip before shipping it to you?

True

True

True

Ummmm, sure, but not with your own chip, becuase the Extender chip is in the ECM like any other chip you would buy.

True

I guess what I'm trying to get a full handle on is exactly what you can adjust if you have JUST the Reg. Trans?

What you can adjust if you have JUST the Trans.+ ?

What you can adjust if you have the Reg. Trans. and the extender chip?

What you can adjust if you have the Trans.+ and the extender chip?

I know alot of people are really getting interested in this whole Translator buisiness, especially now that you can't seem to find a good replacement for the original MAF sensors & I'm jusy trying to put everthing in layman's terms for some of us (me) that are confused about what exactly each version of the translator can & can't do with & without the extender chip.

Translator lets you adjust Maf readings for fuel adjustment. Trans plus lets you adjust your timing also

Another reason I'm asking all these questions is that I ordered the Reg. Trans. a few days ago & don't know if I should send it back & buy the Trans. + so I can have all the adjustability that I can get for just 100.00 more. I'm sure we can all agree that sometimes out cars respond sometimes to the slightest adjustments.

Depends on how much you like to tinker. I'm glad I dont have it. I would be screwing with it all the time:D

Hopefully I get it out of my system before I get an ME

If you run at the track with the same chip get the + for the timing adjustments. Or if you like to tinker a bit, have direct scan etc......

Open the wallet. ;)

Here it is in a nutshell.

With the regular translator, you can run the LT1/LS1 MAF (HUGE PLUS right there)
You can set the MAF BASE fueling for which ever MAF you have. That's about it.

If you run the Extender chip, then you can also take control of WOT fueling.

Remember, we're not the only ones that run the Translator, It was designed to benefit the GM 'F' body guys also!! That's why there's more adjustments than what it seems we can use.
That's also why we need the Extender chip to control WOT fueling with the MAF WOT switch. The "F" body gues can use it right away (better ECM's).

As for the Translator Plus, all the above is true except that now you also have control of BASE timing and WOT timing. You don't need the extender for that, but you do need to splice in the timing wire.

Plus, with the Extender chip, you also get all of it's added features.

Quick Spool
Anti Theft/valet/convenience
Lean Cruise
adjustable WOT TCC lockup
adjustable shift light
Open Loop Idle.

now somebody explain something too me please. I have the regular trans. and LS1 maf. I thought there wasn't any adjustment in it, and its only advantage was too allow the GN ecm too decifer the signal from the LS1 maf. Is there fuel Adj.

Another way to think about it.

MAF Translator: Use late model MAF
Translator Plus: Use late model MAF, and has timing adjustments(Base, WOT).

The Extender chips add WOT fueling adjustment to either setup.
The Extender chips also have many user adjustable features.
