Most HP ever?

What is the most horse power ever recorded from a GN? I was watching Spike TV on Sunday and one of the car shows on there "Power Block" featured some shots of the Bowling Green Buick show. I saw one GN that had 1350 HP and hooked up to a racing 5 speed.

I'd guess and say between 1500 to 1600 hp but I have no idea for sure

I'd have to say 1600hp maybe on the low side. I have a issue of Turbo from March of '99 with Duttweiler's red GN reportedly making 1192hp, 813ft at 34psi (race trim), & 1485hp, 1106ft at 45psi (turn the knob all the way to the right trim ). That was 6yrs ago and turbo & electronic engine managment has come a long way.

yes they have .. alot of that shows in the stock block cars

as for stage powered cars its still limited to how much the parts can handle
at 1600 hp thats 266.6 hp per cylinder .. thats alot to ask of the parts available

that would equal 2132.8 hp in a v8 application

I saw a 2.something litre 4 cyl AWD Mitsubishi from California top 1000 hp and was running supposidly the stock 5 speed trans. I think he had a twin turbo set up and nitros. Even with forced induction and laughing gas that is wild numbers for a 4 banger!

That was Bill Andersons Car

Bills car is a screamer i thank it went 7.25 at best. Man does he have that clutch setup working with that Liberty 5 speed. Very clean car very nice craftmanship

In that same artical, Duttweiler ran a corrected 7.29 (7.36 was actual time) here in Phx. Best mph was 180.

It is impresive, but most of the people in the "Sport Compact Series" higher classes are producing more than 1400hp in race trim. I've seen articals that the Ecotec guys are making over 1600hp out of 2.2L 4cyl .

That is awesome. Lets here it for modern tech. When I was a kid in the 80's, thats the 1980's, if you didn't have a big block or at least a small block with a nice sounding cam you didn't have a hot rod. I was the odd ball in my highschool because my senior year I had an 85 turbo colt that would scream. 4 cyl turbo with a 4 speed with a power economy stick (8 gears total) and I hadn't even heard of an intercooler.

The highest HP number on the dyno that I have seen is 1580HP in Ron Luman's Car. I am not sure what Big Al's made but 191MPH with an automatic sounds inpressive to me. A couple of the white racing cars and richie kibler's car if you do the math are making 1600HP. I am sure a 1700HP V6 is possible but it would not live. Ken Duttweiler made 1830HP with his 280ci SBC.
