WOW...already blowing gaskets huh. Not good. Back off the boost to about 20. What do you mean audible warning? I hope you are talking about an alarm and not audible knock. What headgaskets, fasteners and torque procedure?

I have to agree. Blowing gaskets is not part of the recommended breakin procedure.

hard lesson. My audible was malfunctioning.SO if you HEAR pre-ignition it's too late???YOU LIVE AND LEARN,audible knock warning will be 1st thing to check Buick gaskets and arp fasteners were used, thanks, guys.

How where the heads torqued? Did you recheck them after a few heat cycles?

Sounds like it leaned out on you. How are you watching AFR's and KR?
Like the boys said, headgaskets have nothing to do with motor break-in.
Turn the boost down and get a grip on the tune. ;)

thanks for help, motor was assembled for me by reputable builder.Hindsight,[20-20]I need to get a little more hands-on tuning exp. before I start mashing . I don't have any diagnostic tools.Just let my mechanic set levels for me.He said to take it easy and learn the car.Did I listen??? I will updatesoon,Thanks to all who respond

Hey, 53, who built your engine? I'm in Gig Harbor, and there aren't a whole lot of knowledgable TR builders in these parts. How did your mech set your tune?

Pete

No Diagnostic Tools but 24 lbs boost!! Not Good!
Get a scanmaster & a knock guage at minimum before you do anything else or you will blow more HG's!

I'm no expert but I drove 500 miles without applying boost (takes great will power) to break in my motor. Then... I let her rip! Paul

Mine gets some boost after 50 miles (10-15 lbs) Rings are seated by then. I'm at the track after 500 miles. Car runs 11's on the old combo but the new turbo should drop that to 10's. My engine comes apart almost every winter & its always in good shape. Key is No Detonation!

With GM or Felpro headgaskets (probably most other?) a retorque is not needed. I have Never done it & know another 10 guys who have Never either. You need good ARP fasteners (I like studs myself) lube & with a decent torque wrench & your good to go! Of course the correct pattern for torquing them is very important! Although, I dont know about cars faster than 10's!!
