oil and trans cooler

Recently installed a F-body radiator and used a Summit combo oil/trans cooler have had no problems with it.

high miles DD/warrior.
lots of stop and go lots of short WOT
and a few long WOT
very long (more then 2 hours)highway cruises.
and if i am lucky once or twice i'll make it to the track.

Use only the plate type coolers like B&M. They flow much, much more fluid than a tube and fin style and cool much better for a given size.

Not that one !!!

It only has 3/8 in. ports. IMO not big enough to flow enough for eng. oil. Step up to the next size one which has 1/2 in. NPT ports.

yup, for the engine oil order the cooler whithout the hardware (summit part# BMM-70273 OIL COOLER) , then order 4 1/2" NPT adapters summit part# PRM-15156 FITTINGS BRASS (2) 1/2 X 1/2 ($8 for 4 fittings) You'll have to get the hose also, probably about $10 for the hose.

The cooler you orig. posted will be fine for the trans.

Just did the F-body radiator swap....wow, car runs 170 in high heat with a/c on.

I use Earls coolers for tranny & oil mounted under the battery with a fan which runs whenever the radiator fans run. Earls has many sizes & different size connectors. I'm using a #12 an for the oil & a # 8 for the tranny. They are the plate type & a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I use this permacool engine oil/trans oil cooler in front of my Camaro radiator on both my TRs

FWIW I used that same cooler on my Chevelle that had a 3000 stall converter in iit, without any problems. I will say I like the plate style coolers better though, as they are more durable than those tube and fin type coolers.

One thing I would recommend if you can afford it is get the one that doesn't utilize the hose barbs, but instead uses screw on AN fittings. Such as this one: B&M 70266 - B&M SuperCooler Oil Coolers - summitracing.com

That's how I'm going to do my car as soon as I get the parts and funds to do it.

I can't find any hose in summit for less then $40.00
Would regular auto parts hose hold up to the oil.
Could I use high pressure FI Hose?

I was looking at those.
Did you notice any significant PSI drop in engine oil?

No, not at all. Additionally, you have to have longer oil cooler lines made up with AN fittings on the cooler side. That cost me around $40 a couple years ago.

I went to the local truck parts store, got 8ft for $12. 1/2 ID oil hose 300psi rated. They sell parts for big rigs mostly. A hydraulic supply would have it also.

Im doing this as well.I got 2 B&M coolers 1 for trans and 1 for oil. Both have fans and state. For the oil i went -10an and Trans is -6an. I mounted the trans cooler in the middle of the air dam and the oil cooler is going on the pass. side below the battery. Im using all braided lines.

are your fittings 1/2 or 3/8 at the cooler?

The cooler lines are not 3/8". The passes are larger. They may be 5/8" but not sure. If you check the Jegs or Summit catalog, pretty sure it has that information. The female ends on the cooler are npt. For the two trans lines I bought barbed nipples with npt on the cooler side, and for the engine oil lines I bought nipples with npt on one side and male AN on the other. The hoses I had made up with corresponding female AN to attach to those nipples. Sorry I can't remember the sizes.
