had a wide open belt parkway tonight so i opened the GN up a bit, felt good under WOT running 18 lbs boost, then when i slowed it down, after a few seconds i looked in the mirror and saw a cloud of smoke behind me, got on the gas again and got the same cloud of smoke, then the car started running rough. service engine light came on for a few seconds, then the light shut off on its own. nursed the car off the parkway, getting some smoke from driver side of hood, checking the oil pressure constantly which was reading normal(never goes below 25 lbs). came to a stop right off the highway, idle was "pulsing" with the vaccum gauge pulsing with it aroung 20. popped the hood, noticed oil all over the driver's valve cover, bottom of powermaster and all over the frame and control arm, with the motor sounding like it had a bad exhaust leak.no oil on the passenger's side. rev the motor a little a couple of times and it would blow smoke through the breathers on both valve covers and through the oil dipstick. anybody recognize this symptom? this motor is a fresh Merkel rebuild with less than 2000 miles. i believe the oil spit out of the drivers valve cover breather, what would cause this to happen and make the motor run rough with the blow-by? any help would be appreciated.

im no expert but i had some what similar experience in my stang... turned out to be blown vavle spring... too much cam not enough spring :o

My guess would be a head gasket.

Take it somewhere where you can get a leakdown and compression test to make sure. Your vacuume gage bouncing around is one sign and your pressureing up the crank case to blow oil out the dip stick.

Good Luck

Oil pouring out the valve covers means headgasket usually, though you may be extremely lucky and have a PCV problem

18psi is too much for pump gas. Unless you have a big intercooler, alcohol injection or a super low timing chip that is probably what killed it

Dont drive the car anymore until you get it apart
