Has any one ever moved the turbo on there 84-85 to the front like the 86-87. I guess its more then headers and some brackets. I would like to maybe try this let me know if you have done this before.

Iam thinking crazy again;)

What benefits do you see from this setup other than less piping and a possible increase in downpipe aftermarket possibilities? Now you have me thinking.

You'll have to move the alternator and compressor to the other side, them move the coil, you might as well do an 87 conversion.
Also, the wire loom will be too close to the turbo so that will have to be moved. If you can think of an easy way to do all this, it would be worthwhile. In addition you will need an 87 header for the passenger side along with crossover and dp, and 87 power steering pump.

MIB has it right. Bolt an 86-87 p.s. header on and the turbo sits where the the alternator and A/C are located. All the 86-87 accesories will be needed.

Well the way i look at it is , better headers, better intake, turbo is out of the way , looks better , you can get alot of chrome for this set up unlike the 84-85 motors, looks eazy to work on. I think thats it.

Ok , pass header , upper and lower intake , tb , is there a backet that holds the alt that i would need off the 87. is the fuel rail the same or no 85-87 .and move the coil and a little rewire job , is this about it guys.

man you guys up north cant ever make up your minds..:D

to put the acc. on the dr. side you need all the acc. from 86-87

and it wont be cheapthen if you dont want air you will need an ac delete pully....if you wanna run air you will need ac lines for 86-87 car.

i thought about doig that when i was still hotair but never finished checking into every thing i would need .

i was looking at different fwd cars with 3.3 and 3.8 liter motors at their brackets but i dont think any of them will work.:(

Dan Smith has done this before.

Before this board crashed last year there was some archived stuff about how Dan Smith did this converson to his 84 T-type with pic's. If you see Dans car in person it has the 84 interior with the 86-87 motor. He has changed and built a few motors but, he originally converted the 84 motor to an 86-87 set up. In his words "It's better to just convert to the 86-87 motor" And one thing that I don't think was mentioned is drilling for the turbo drain back hose.

thanks for writing , i forgot about the drain for the turbo. I want with the v2 intake so i guess i'll just keep the turbo in the back.

Maybe i'll try it one day , when i get the money and the time , :)

thank

hey,

I have an 85 Gn with a spearco intercooler. I took the intercooler and mounted it in front of the waterpump ( like the 87), and i custom cut and welded my pipes to fit. The reason i did this was for one to shorten the time it takes the air to travel to the throttle body. the only draw back is the less tubing the less cooling so what i have to do is keep my electric fan on all the time ( no big deal). the result was a much faster throttle response and the air going in was actually a couple of degrees cooler. So I guess I have a hybrid 85-87 set up.???
