Not sure if anybody has tried this but I'll ask anyway.

I have MS Office on my computer(s), and older 2003 version.

Now, IF I download Open Office, will it take over as the default office environment??? Or will all my hundreds of MS Office documents be safe as they are?

TIA

I believe it will not change. Even if it does, they will still be .doc documents. Open Office can read almost any document type, and also format its own into any format type. You should be fine. And if you need to type documents to open on MS Office in the future, you can save them as Word documents.

Nix

I have both on this computer. Office 2007 and OpenOffice. They seem to both be fine. If I double click a .doc or .docx (the new Microshaft format) MS Word opens.

I use Open Office with no problems. Best part is it's FREE!
