Here's another tip for making your tail lights brighter, replace the 2057 brake/taillight bulb with a 2357, if you do one side at a time you can compare them for yourself. I did it on my car...very slick
Here's some comparative data I dug up at http://www.theherd.com/articles/bulbs.html for the "low" setting (ie, normal illumination, brakelight OFF).

Trade No ..... Watts......Candle Power

2057............ 6.86 ....... 2

2357.............8.26 ........3

50% brighter (candle power), dissipates 20% more heat.

maybe some slight risk of taillight lens damage.

There are also super pricey & bright (but little heat) LED equivalent lamp replacements http://shop.store.yahoo.com/dpstore/1156.html.
In Calif, many traffic lights have converted to LED lamps.

I'm glad i looked at this because I am putting taillight covers on my car again and this will certainly help. I had a cop almost rear end me once because he couldn't see the lights. They're fine at night. I ended up getting a tinted window ticket out of it, but no taillight covers ticket.
