my 16 year old son wrecked my ta today

Well I thought I had a pretty good day going on until about 4:30 this afternoon. Got a call from the wife that my oldest son had wrecked my 96 TA. I went to pick him up at the accident scene. Car is pretty much mangled. I am just happy him and his girlfriend survived without being hurt. I had the car towed to Capitol Body Shop for an estimate. I do not know if it will make it though. Oh well now is the time for another project though.

Keep up that good attitude about it. Cars can be replaced. Family cannot. I've totaled 2 TRs already, but come out OK on each one. Each time I was able to take the insurance proceeds and get an even better car! No Problem, Mon.

Its a good thing they are bolth ok. 4th gen F bodys are pretty safe I had one a couple years ago when I was 17 basicly winter time and going from a 4cyl front wheel drive to a v8 rear wheel drive is not a good combination. Then for some reason even though the shop I bought it at said the breaks where fine it didnt stop from about 40mph estimated to stop in 120 feet. The car was totaled but I was not hurt other then a little burn from the air bag.

There's no way I would ever let him touch the T or the Elky ever again. I just went to the body shop to check it out while it was on the lift. Kinda funny he says he had a blowout, but the tires perfectly intact. I guess he was trying to act like his dad. At the very least I am going to get the truth out of him, that way I can at least know waht really happened.

glad the boy is ok. I feel when it comes to driving you either have or you don't. most young kids don't have it and never will. That combined with a car with some power and you'll get that result. When i got my licence i was driving a 4 banger fwd cutlass and my dad gave me a set of keys to the 70 stage 1. He knew driving was in the bloodline and he had nothing to worry about. But more so than being a good driver is having good common sense. people think just cause they can keep from wrecking that makes them a good driver. You have to able to avoid being wrecked into just as well.

Heck Ross, if that were the case, if he would just tell the truth about it, I might just give him an slap on the back. On the serious side, me & the boy had the talk today. He kinda recanted a little bit of the story when I confronted him. You guys give your opinions. I told him that he must pay the $500.00 deductible, whether the car totals or not, plus he will pay the difference in his insurance premium, being I was paying the original amount upfront. I don't want to be a horses azz, but the boy needs to learn some resposibility. What do you think?

I'd say you need to know the whole truth before making that decision. If it there really was no malice on his part, he would deserve some leniancy IMO. If he was showing out, your thoughts seem right on track to me bud. But then again, I'm just a dumb, single, white guy! Talk to the G/f, and trip her up. Divide and conquer

He should have already been paying insurance. Glad he is OK, but regardless of the "story", paying the deductible and future premiums should be expected. Perhaps his driving style would be a little more conservative if it's hurting his pocket.

My dad's one and only speech:
"Here's the keys. I don't pay for insurance, gas, repairs, or tickets. I don't bail people out of jail, and......you know when it's too late to be out."

Sorry to hear about it. Glad your son is okay. I know where he is coming from. Having hit a big WHITE concrete wall put a 40% surcharge on my insurance, which is an extra $1000 a year. But anyway, give him time. He'll tell you when he is comfortable. It was his fault and he knows. He should be held responsible. And I agree with paying the deductible and increased insurance cost. I'm 20, and the insurance on my Regal now runs close to $320 A MONTH. Life goes on. I'm sure there will more issues. Hope all goes well.
