My brother came in my room yesterday asking about where he can get chassis work done to his truck. O this is going to be good I thought to myself. Me: I know a couple places, why? Him: Well I'm going to have about 300 extra pounds in my truck and don't want the frame to bend. Me: WTF are you talking about? Do you think fat guys bend frames? Him: Well it's going to have a lot of power to when I get a 350 twin turbo put in there. Then it comes out - He wants to make it into a pro-stock. The fastest car he had was probably a 15-sec car and he has never been to the track. What's the easiest way to tell him he's an idiot? Keep in mind I just asked him for the $100 I charge him a week to live at my house and he couldn't even come up with that. Well I guess that's the end of my rant.

single turbo lsx is his best bet, no need to stiffen the frame unless he wants to box it out.

Relax, tell him Santa will cover it next year if he's a good boy.

Your brother will have more of an issue with trying keep the stock 7.5 ring gear from grenading long before he bends the frame. Easisest way to tell him he's an idiot? Start quizing on simple car stuff. Maybe ask him to show you where the "710" cap is. Or ask him what he needs to make those twin turbos work and if he thinks it's a "slap on and go" type of deal. Expose him and then school him. You tube it if you want to humiliate him.

Tell him it will cost him $100 for information. After he gives you the $100 tell him he has to find a new place to live.

tell him to put a stock V8 into the truck first- even a stock 350 with less than 300hp makes for a squirrely combination in a stock S10 since they are pretty nose heavy being trucks and all.. 4.8's and matching 4L60E's are dirt cheap right now, start with those.. he can always up the power after the engine is installed and he proves that he won't kill himself as he adds more and more power.
there's a guy out there with a 4.8 powered Silverado that's running low 10's on what he claims is an untouched short block with better heads, cam, and a turbo..

He obviously want to beat you at something. Be blunt with him and tell him that if he wants to kick your a$$ that he can catch you sleeping and do it for free. No need to spend $25k on a pickup. If he looses he will have a little pain but save a ton of cash. Its also winter so he has Illinois tennant rights, can't put him out till spring. $100 a week saved!
Also the LS stuff is nice, but the old SBC parts can be had a great prices because of the new era engines.

I think you'll should attempt this. Trying to talk my brother into swaping a 2jzgte motor into an old 87 e30 bmw he owns. For $6000 I can build it into a 9sec sleeper doing the fabrication and work myself.

go to www.car-part.com and price out a 350 for a 97 K1500 truck and then price out a 4.8 or 5.3 for an '01 Silverado K1500.. the newer stuff is cheaper to get and makes a much better base to build from.

He can go with the 4.8 or 5.3 reallly cheap, seriously. Jegs, Summit, and speedway motors sells a 4 barrel intake and MSD ignition controler for around $600 and you can put a holley on it and bolt up a turbo 350. Super cheap power.

Being that he and I live in the same area I would think I'd know how much this type of project would run. Not to mention I'm a mechanic by trade. Thanks for your opinions though! I priced some LS engines for a friend last week.
