Ok I know this is probably an easy one!!! But it is driving me nuts!! I have a 84 WH1 pretty much stock, I put a cold air on it and 160 thermostat and a better breather. The problem is when I drive the car it drives normal but when you start to put your foot in it it will make a poping noise and seems to lose all power when it pops? I had noticed when it is first started it does not do it near as bad as when the engine is warm! I alos noticed when it is cooler out it does not seem to do it as much either? I have 93 octane with octane booster in it. I had replaced all the vacuum lines and new plugs and wires. I can't really seem to track it down, but I know it really got me going when a Honda almost got me off the line!!!!! Any ideas??? Thanks

????

I am not really sure on the boost, I bought a gauge but I have not put it in yet and the car only has two stupid lights!! As far as the pump I was told by the guy I bought it from that it is a Walboro 340?? But I have heard tons of BS before so it really is anyones guess!!

Do you smell any fuel when all this is going on?

I've got a similar problem with the popping noise that occurs but I've got a fuel smell that comes from mine when this occurs.

It could be a leaky fuel injector. But it depends on if your getting that smell I imagine.

I'd check for vacuum leaks beyond the new vacuum lines you've put in. How old is the O2 sensor? Maybe a MAF sensor issure. A scantool really helps diagnose some of these problems. Are you getting a SES?

Does it pop back through the intake? Could be a lean pop or severe overboosting which would also be a lean pop.

I had a problem with mine poping under boost, I tried everything, Finally I took it to a local Chevrolet Dealer who had a Tech who owned and worked on GN's, 800.00 dollars later and a new spark plug (one plug was bad) have not had the problem since. The plug looked great but something about the resistance caused my problem.

I'd check plug wires it's easy on these cars to melt one and that would be all it would take to cause this issue, You might not see it either, did you move the plug wires, if you don't have them on the coil correctly your car will run like this as well.

Thanks for the help!!!

Yeah it was driving me nuts but I figured it out!!! It was the number 1 plug!!! The tineist little crack init, and the last one I had checked!!! Go figure!! I had also put a 237 Bosch fuel pressure regulator on it today and now it breaks the tire from the one two shift!! Has anyone ever had there turbo from a hot air ceramic coated? I wonder if that will cool the temps down????? Let me know!!

Glad you got it figured out. I've had the exhaust side coated for looks. Didn't make a difference on heat.

Glad you figured it out. You have got to be patient when looking for a problem on a TR, I do not have the patients that I once had, and this site is a godsend for answers to where to begin to look. Have a great weekend, AND GET OUT AND DRIVE THOSE BUICKS.

will/could be:
NE1 know why I have this bad rattle in the engine?
Do yourself a favor, and stay out of the throttle, until you get the proper monitoring tools set up.
A bare minimum:
Scan tool.[Scanbastard a minimum]
Fuel pressure ga.
Boost gauge.

Water temp, oil pressure gauges.

I'd also throw in a visual or audible knock guage too. I prefer the audible type.
