ok.. its not fixed :( :( :(

driving to the store today to return some stuff, my car just randomly died... again, two times in a row.

so, we'll go through the symptoms and what i've checked.

symptoms:
cruising around, car cuts off, tach goes to zero but the engine is still spinning, maybe the TC is locked, i dont know, all i know is its not coasting.

i pull over, turn the ign OFF. turn it back on, it does not have the seatbelt chime, nor does the fuel pump prime. i can cycle the key on and off a few times, usually it doesnt matter, if i leave the ign on, eventually after a minute or two, the seatbelt chime will come back on and the idiot lights will light up as they should, when the ign is on. fuel pump will prime.

car will not start at this point, it takes another 30 seconds or so and the car will just start back up like nothing happened.

there are NO codes.

i've gone through the trouble of eliminating a EST code 42 (or 43, whatever).

both EST and BYPASS lines have less than 1 ohm resistance and do not ground out.

the module is a new GM 87 module, it was checked at v-zone and it passed with flying colors. (the car has the 84->87 wiring adapter)

the coilpak is a NEW accel coil.

it has a working 87 ECM

any ideas? its not even throwing a code anymore, just turning off. this is so frustrating, its like nothing i do works for any period of time. yesterday is the first time its done this since i replaced the 7148 ecm with another 7148 ecm from the u pull it.

:( :(

help guys..

Could it be somewhere else?

Somthing loosing contact in the steering column? Like if you turned the key off?

Hope you get it fixed.

Chris

someone mentioned the ignition switch, i was under the dash tapping on **** and wiggling wires once i got the car restarted to see if it would stall again but it never would..

i knwo where the under dash ign switch is.. how about the one in the column? i have a steadfast so if its flakey its gonna suck replacing it..

the car has had an 87 ecm since we restored it in 1998, and the car does it with the new 87 module and accel coil and with the hotair modules and coils that i have..

It's a long shot, but I had the same problem for a long time (it would only randomly cut off for about a second & be fine for a while). It also would occasionally not start. Always the tach would read zero during the troubles.
I apparantly had a bad connection at the harness to the ignition module, because a good cleaning of the plug & a junkyard type II module cured the trouble.
