This car has a bit of history behind it for me and I bet NCturbos remembers it from the Pineville, NC area in the mid to late 90s. My Dad bought this car from the original owner in 1998 in fairly poor shape for $5000. The paint was shot and it had some other hack job work done to it. I installed a jasper engine shorty after it was purchased as the original developed a rod knock. My Dad was killed in an auto accident that was his fault in May of 2003 and I acquired the car. It has sat in storage ever since. I tried stripping the trunk lid a few months ago with aircraft stripper. It would not touch the primer. I even tried a DA with 80 grit. Fast forward a few months and I actually get some time and money to get back to it. I used a paint stripping disc on a 4 1/2 angle grinder and holy crap did that thing work great. I then sanded it with 80 then 180 grit on a DA. I shot 2 coats of epoxy primer then 4 coats of 2k high build. I blocked down the 2k with a 2ft long durablock and some 320 then 400 wet. 3 coats of PPG shopline JBP black then 2 coats of clear. Here are the results. I still have to sand the dust out of the clear then reshoot a coat or 2. Then buff. I am not a pro painter but have seen enough to get good results. My compressor is way too small also for this devilbiss finish line gun. I am very excited to get this car back looking like it should.
