Think my new security system is gonna consist of a dwarf (maybe 2) that live in the trunk and are HEAVILY armed.

I've made it a habit to always take somebody (usually my son) with me whenever I take the GN out, and that person stays with the car- usually armed. I have a penchant for having weapons with me......

Here's something for you- Washington is a "shall issue" state when it comes to concealed carry permits, as long as you're not a felon or convicted of domestic violence.....and non-residents can obtain a Washington CCW pretty easily, too....

That commercial was hillarious, sorry bout the car guy. Insurance wise, good reason to have collectors stated value insurance. Mine 15K for $180/yr.

Stolen '87 GN- La Habra, Ca.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I posted this already in the stolen rides area here.... Thought I'd do the same for the local threads...

My '87 GN was stolen today from a shopping center parking lot at Beach Blvd and Imperial Hwy in La Habra Ca.

Nothing really distinguishing, typical black brick in great condition, 41K miles.
VIN- 1G4GJ1174HP464100

Please keep an eye out for someone selling one.. parts etc. that seems suspicious- I am in shock over this.

My stupidity, no lojack. I was in a Lowe's for about 20 minutes and came out and it was gone. They must have followed me and waited for me to go into the store...

This really sucks!
men i am sorry to hear that... my Limited got broke into, got the lock pop, steering column cracked, and wire cuts..... luckly the car wasnt runnig at the moment, a burn fusesible link saved my car from being stolen... .... im originaly from l.a, cali.... a friend of mine got his gn stolen from the parking lot of home depo... he was the original owner... so it sucked.... but go luck to you.... i hope you get her (gn) back.....

Thanks!

Thanks to all who have had kind words and suggestions...

No word yet from police or insurance. Supposed to have an offer from them next week if the car isn't recovered.

I'll be looking, eventually, for another GN. I'd prefer another '87 but an '86 would work too...If anyone has a connection on a clean one with fairly low miles, please let me know. I don't really want anything too heavily modded. I would love to find a stocker with 25K miles for about $10K... ;) j/k

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Probably won't be in a big hurry but maybe in a month or two.

It took 1 week for the Police to find my Dads in 96 it was very easy. They dropped it off a flat bed in the middle of Compton Blvd. intersection. It was gutted. Nothing but Body, and Frame. No fenders nothing! Oh the windshield was in tacked with the vin# Laser cut out of it.

Any word on recovery?

Nothing yet....

The auto theft detective for La Habra PD didn't seem too enthused even though I told him the theft was most likely caught on Lowe's parking lot security cameras and I told him I could pinpoint the theft down to about a 15 minute timeframe on the security tapes... He said whatever was on there would most likely not be "workable", whatever that means. I got the impression that the "Auto Theft Detective" had better things to do than seriously investigate auto theft.

I've pretty much written it off. I'll be looking for another GN and am open to any leads on a nice '86 or '87 GN with not too many miles on the clock.
30-70K would be good...

The GTA units don't really seem to do much. When my T was stolen they "claimed" to be working on it. At the same time another car was stolen in the same area and it was discovered within a couple of days in another state.

Foul Play was involved so the cops were much quicker to actually search for the car.

Never did find my ride... (and my insurance had been cancelled because I was stationed overseas) So I lost everything...

The Latest

Car has not been recovered but I settled with the insurance company for a little under $21,000 which I thought was very fair. They (Progressive) sent out for an appraisal to theautoappraiser.com. Luckily I had tons of good photos of the car.

I was going to buy another GN, looked at the one Harold bought, but then decided to buy a Corvette instead. Got a good buy on a torch red '96 convertible with 18" Zenetti's. A real beauty...

A big thumbs up to Progressive insurance for not dicking me around on this thing. A thumbs down to the La Habra PD who didn't seem to be in a hurry to look at the security tape. I found out it (the theft) was actually caught on video with a car and license visible of the thief, but the cops never looked at it until 2 weeks after the theft, even though I told them about it the next day. Now they say it's too blurry to make a positive ID of the license plate.

Thanks to all here who helped with advice, condolences and suggestions.

I have a feeling I will own another GN in the future no matter how it goes with the Vette...

Bob:
Glad to hear that everything worked out for you in the end. Good luck with the vette. I am sure that we will see you back again with a turbo brick. I've had 2 vettes & 5 turbo bricks, so the darkside always wins in the long run.

Taxpayers $$ wasted??

" I got the impression that the "Auto Theft Detective" had better things to do than seriously investigate auto theft."

Yep. He'd likely just gotten a radio message that the donut shop had just made a fresh batch....

Same thing w/ my bud's T.. He saw them drive away, called the "goon squad", and was promptly told to "stop by, and fill out a stolen car report. They're likely already out of the hood"...

Just think, if they find it, or god forbid, arrest the dirtbag, then "all that paperwork" has to be done. Job pays the same catchem, or not..
