My not quite frame off paint job.

Finally getting around to posting all these up. My paint job was always a 7 out of 10. whenever I wasn't driving it I was able to leave it covered under a car port. In the spring of 2018, I got the car and noticed the clear coat was bubbling up on the roof. I work at a body shop, an because the rest of the car wasn't "that bad", I was just going to re-paint the roof and quarters. Well as with most things...….it got out of control. Ended up stripping the entire car. Took 9 months, but it was well worth it. Luckily I work at a body shop so I had lots of help from my buddies and access to all the tools/equipment I needed. After taking the doors apart, they were too rusted to try and save. I bought dome goodmark doors. And they actually fit pretty damn good. It had previously been wrecked on the left front (me when I was 17..oops). The front left never did really fit right or "flow" So I bought a used oem fender, and everything fit much much better. After the body work, and lots and lots of block sanding. Hours and hours and hours of blocking. It was so miserable. But the guys at work didn't let me cut corners and assured me it would all be worth it. We painted an base coat and 3 coats of clear. It looked amazing. So we took a sander to ti. Yes, that was planned. We sanded with 600 grit to get it even smoother, then re-sprayed with 2 more coats of clear

That's a good looking paint job, young man. You should be very proud!

Sorry to hear about your head gasket! However, the car looks awesome!!

I have been sanding so much on mine that I feel like Popeye. Most dont realize but you do more sanding than anything. It really should be called a 90% sand job, 8% prime and 2% paint job. Looks great ,cant wait until I get to that point. Quick question, how did you remove the paint on your header panel or did you just scuff it?

I definitely wasn't prepared for the amount of prep work a good paint job requires. I feel like I was blocking in m y sleep.

We took a DA and 180 grit to it to get the paint off. And did it by hand in the corners and curves. Took forever. Then glazed the entire header panel, Then more blocking.

Nice looking paint job! Those rims really look good as well. As for the head gasket, be advise that once it's fixed you'll probably get a flat tire. Seems like these cars are always one step ahead of us with random oddball issues...

Nevertheless, the car is a stunner.
