One thing that's changed since I was a kid (which has really turned me off) is that cars are more like rolling living rooms now that something you actually "drive". 100k tune-ups, no more 1k mile oil changes and setting points. You just sit behind the wheel and give it a nudge every so often. And it's gonna get way worse as mfg's up the price with electronically driven crap. Freakin' climb in and take a nap!

So here is something funny....
Here is a pic that I drew at 7 and one that my son drew at 7. Mine is on top. As we can all tell artistry is not in our family lol. But look closely and check out what we each labeled our cars.

My kid is 18 and doesn't even want to get his license! I have failed as a gearhead father. Believe me, I tried.

Yep they say given a choice teens will choose their iphone over a car. Sad

Here's my start of the car addiction and consequently passing it on to my daughter. I was seven when I got a brand new step dad and he had a brand new GTO Judge convertible. We were somewhere out by the Portland Ore. airport and we went through a red light at 130+ because that was as slowed down as he could get it. (Yeah, I know it could have turned out very badly) It didn't though, and his biggest concern- was I going to tell Mom? Of course not. A gearhead was born! He had lots of other hot cars afterwards also, and when I turned 15 he co-signed a loan for my 1st car, a ' 64 1/2 Mustang coupe with a Hi-Po 260 and 4-speed.
In the summertime of '87 I had just picked up my 2 year old daughter from day care in my new GN. We left the parking lot a little sideways and I will always remember the grin on her face and the look in her eyes and the "Wow Daddy, do it again!" When she turned 16 she got her own GN that we worked on together. Thanks for a good memory/flashback!

The biggest smile my son has ever had in his life was the first time he got to drive my 70 GS455 conv. ( I rode shotgun). I also let him take my GN to his Senior Prom and He had a pretty big grin on that day too. As we work together building his 72 suncoupe that is currently a BBB 430 powered / 4 speed, posi traction beast I can see him grinning and dreaming of the day it hits the street.
