This is a poem my Dad wrote called "Meditation on the High Sea"
Somewhere in a million lonely homes tonight,
A million mothers keep a vigil light.
An everlasting watch they keep,
Their eyes dim, their outside world asleep.
Somewhere, out on a lonely se
A million boys stand facing the breeze.
Destiny unknown, fate untold,
Their only trust in God they hold.
Shattered dreams, a world forsaken,
Love a memory, a million hearts aching.
Are we to blame for what's going on;
Blackout at night, fear of the dawn?
The Great Master's answer is -YES.
We are to blame, we must confess.
Somewhere, a million souls must be taken
Back to the God that they have forsaken.
This task over, God's will be done,
Peace everlasting, life's battle won.
My Dad wrote this on a ship going to Australia during WWII.
