which car is that? i see a Hendrick sticker, but i also see dual ignition systems on the dash... which means that it's either an older pre-efi Cup car or something like a Nationwide or ARCA car...

Judging from the interior build quality, I'm betting it's an ARCA car, or a much older Nationwide.

The car belongs to a private owner and is on display at Autorama. Interesting story of the purchase requirements.

purchase requirements? you generally just need enough cash and they let you have the car... as of a few weeks ago, you could buy old Cup and Nationwide cars of all different makes from the Roush website for about $10k-$15k with everything but a motor and trans..

Hmmm. Ok. I dont know shinola about NASCAR. He just said he purchased after writing a letter, and got just the body & frame because much of it was still proprietary. He was sold the engine and the rest 3 years later, and he put the car together.

yeah, it's really not that exclusive of a club that owns old NASCAR racers... some of the more historical cars are harder to come across and cost some real coin- an actual for reals Dale SR RCR Wrangler Monte Carlo SS, for example, or any car that was a part of a championship run- but most of the cars are built, raced for a while, then replaced when they have a better idea.. that's why it costs so damn much to compete at that level...

here is a link to the cars you can get from Roush right now.. notice that the Cup COT car is only $15k, with only a few things needed to make it move on it's own:

i'm not 100% sure if it still holds true, but a lot of the ARCA cars used to be cast off Cup cars with a few slight changes. i think the rulebooks diverged too much when Cup went to the COT cars..

I think I know who owns that car.

I thought it was interesting that they have an oil temp gage visible from that position.

what position? i'd guess it's the quarter window, back near where the oil tank is... allows someone to take a quick glance at the gauge during a pit stop while the driver is busy taking a drink of water and setting the brake bias back to where it needs to be..

i wanna see a pic of the whole car to see what we are talking about here.. a Cup car is different than a Nationwide car, which is different than an ARCA car...

also a super speedway car will be different than an intermediate car, which is different than a short track car or road race car...
