I know; I know I live a sheltered world

Can someone explain to me the difference between an IPOD and a MP3 player and what are the better models of each one? He just is turning 11 in January and he knows more about them than I do

Advice needed and which would be the best.

Thanks in Advance:cool:

IMO Ipods are not very user friendly. Got to Newegg.com - MP3 Players, MP4 Players, Creative ZEN, Zune, iPod, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, Creative MP3 Player
and read the reviews for the various devices. There are tons of options to choose from. Start reading and have fun. One thing I prefer on a MP3 player is the ability to "drag and drop" music to it instead of using a software program to interface the MP3 player. For example you need iTunes software to put music on the ipod and on my samsung mp3 player I can just drag and drop the music on it like it was a USB flash drive.

I have two ipods and I find them very user friendly. Easy to load and work and if you have troubles with them one of his friends will know how. That is the advantage of having a popular item. I would recommend getting the extended warrenty though.

I just purchased one the other day. I bought the Samsung YP-K3(red). Its a great little mp3 player, it has two GB of memory, and a FM tuner. I got for work when I'm doing the mine-numbing tasks.

Thanks Everyone! That helps; IPOD it is!

Not such an "outdated" question.

I have an MP3 player but looking at "stepping up".
Would like a player that supports videos (MPG/MOV), Music (MP3/WMV), Pictures (JPG/GIF). What is the recomendation on a portable unit besides a laptop?

Check out the Archos 705 I have the Archos 704 and love it. I bought it for travel and it's the best thing ever on flight. It plays most movie formats and mp3's. You have to download a couple of plugins to make it compatible with .MOV and VOB files but they aren't that expensive (20 buck) and are well worth it IMO. I downloaded season 4 of the shield and a few movies when I went to mexico last month. It has a 7 inch touch screen and wifi so it can be used to browse the internet but it's mainly a personal media player. If you want something smaller Archos has PMP's (personal media players) with smaller screens also. Read up on the Archos line and check out creative labs PMP's also.

Well,
I ended up with the IPod Classic, which is not as "user friendly" as I thought it would be (IMHO).

Returned the IPod, and got the Zune 80GB
So far this is a winner compared to the IPod. :D
The Zune is more for the adult crowd .... CNBC news downloads etc.
