Need Book Help...

Hi All,

I'm trying to find a book I read years ago, prolly late 70's or so. Fiction concerning a group of hunters in northern Michigan picking up people from truck stops, taking them to their deer lease and hunting them for sport. A state trooper tracks them and you find out at the end that his parent(s) were one of the original victims. Author was Stephen or Steven something.

I have searched amazon, google, and a dozen or so book review places to no avail. Ring a bell with anyone?

I've seen that movie, very similar but not quite like this book.

In the book, none of the prey survives. The trooper has to sit by and watch as the hunters finish off the prey because there can be no witnesses. Then the trooper tracks the hunters, killing them all and ending the book.
