Hey guys I need your help. This morning I ended up suffering from some severe back pain and ended up going to the Emergency room where I was treaded with pain killers and future appointments.

Anyways let me get to the point. Im sure about half of us here have suffered from back pain in our life. We bought a new mattress about a little over a year ago and after about a month of having it we found it was too soft. I woke up daily with either a sore back or some back pain in the morning. After about an hour of walking around I was fine. Could never sleep on my back, only on my sides. But now to my question. Who here has had back pain related to their bed and which bed did you buy to relieve it? What beds do you love and recommend and which do you suggest to stay away from. Price doesnt matter. Im looking at getting a Sleep Comfort just because it is adjustable. Everyone's and all opinoins are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys!

After you got your mattress please send pain pills for 2 herniated disc to address below.

i bought a new searly seaty or whatever and my back slowly got worse,unbearable...i never imagined it could be the bed,its a pillow top...anyway i cut open the pillow top and added some waterproof carpet padding stacked in 2 layers and closed it back, then i added the egg crate thing on top and added a tight sheet to keep it in place, then i added a 50 pound feather down comforter that i got off a friend because they said it was to heavy, this thing is thick...i fluff it a bit before bed and fold it in half to make thicker and for the past year my back has felt great!its only getting better too..

i believe once you have the right bed you will notice alot of relief,i never thought it would have been my bed,but heard it could be and just kept messing with it untill i got a week of comfort....good luck,if i was you id keep what you have and start experimenting with it..

I have tried quite a few myself. From regular mattress to waterbed, to air controlled (sleep number) to now the nasa foam crap.... Go to a mattress store and go lay down on a bunch to you find what feels the best. Then go home and start the shopping process. Test them out first!

Well originally when we bought the bed we have right now about 1 year ago, it was cause the old bed started to sag a little and I started to feel a little bakc pain. Back then I was living in Ontario but the bed was with my wife in San Diego. In Ontario I had a cheap asz futon from Wal-Mart and I never had any back problems. But when I came home for the weekends I would not sleep good in the old bed so we decided to buy a new one. During the day my back feels fine so when I went to go test for a new bed they all felt real good. So we went with the one we have cause it was hyper-alegeric and it was supposed to be better than the Temperpudic. Well like $2k later and eventually my back pains got worse than with the previous bed. So I could try to go out and test them and probly will but I wanted to get some opinoins first. Thanks for the replies!

When I have some back pain, I slept on the carpet in my basement living room for 6 months. I laid a thick blanket over the carpet and slept on my back. Try to avoid sleeping on your sides, it wrecks havoc to your body. When you're lieing on your back, try putting a pillow under your hamstrings and elevating your legs.

Hate to put a damper on things but be very careful when it comes to persistent back pain.

If you can tie your discomfort to an event-- like sleeping, doing certain physical activities, throwing lumber around, sitting in that goofy chair in the office, etc. that's fine. Adjust the mattress, get yourself to a chiro, etc. But unexplained nagging back pain, even if random, can suggest very serious health problems (read: cancer), especially lower back. Very recently this has touched our family, and if one person reads this and seeks out a doc before it's too late, then all the better.

If things just don't seem right or you can't tie it to a behavior, PLEASE get to a doctor and try to get a satisfactory diagnosis. In the absence of that, PUSH HARD for a CT scan!

Hope you feel better,
Doug

Sounds like "shaggers back" to me!

I've had a bulged disc for about eight years now.
here's my list of what DID NOT work for me.

steriod injections
acupuncture
physical therapy
ibuprofen (didnt fix the real problem. just masked the pain for a while)
Cyropractors that only crack your back (with out masage)
sagging (Simmons) beds
non alkyholic beer

Here's what DID work for me.

surfing (cool water brings down inflamatoin)
Aleve (a strong antiinflamitory)
Deep masage
my Temperpedic bed
German beer(one a night)
time

If you dont bring down the inflamation, it wont heal.
You might try lite stretching or laying on a tenis ball.
Sorry about the spelling.

Good luck

You might also put 5/8" plywood under your matress to keep the sagging to a min.

So you have the Temperpudic matteras right now? Hows that working out? Im split between the Select Comfort (becuase you could adjust the firmness) and the Temperpudic (because Ive heard a few reviews where the people are in love with it)

I too suffer from back pain. Mostly mid and upper back though. I'm sure its related to the industry I work in, but we have to get paid. When my Serta "perfect sleeper" is not doing justice, I too will be sleeping on the carpet, always on my back. I know one thing that works very well is those boards that you strap too, and hang upside down. I really want one, it helps relieve the stress in your back and circulate blood. man, my back hurts right now just talking about it. But I find back reliefe in firmer beds than I did soft beds, but everybody's body is different. Good luck dude.

Being tall & bending over fenders all my life I have had back problems for years.Careful bending & stretching exercise. Learn proper lifting & ways to minimize back strain under a physical therapist's direction, Walking also helps.sleeping on a firm mattress, Sitting on a firm couch while relaxing.Try sleeping on your side with a small pillow between your knees that will also take the stress of your spine. If you were local I could show you some of the exercises I do to control the pain that I have learned over the years. Good luck with that Lou

i use a extra firm mattress,i also move the mattress or turn it over,so i'm not laying in the same place all the time.it really helps

Yeah from what I heard Im leaning more towards this bed than the Select Comfort. Ive heard good things about this bed and Ive heard a few slight bad things about the Select Comfort. The only thing is the tempurpedic feels nice when you lay down but Im the kinda person that sometimes I lay on my side, then about 1/2 hour later I want to roll over. And last time I remember testing out this bed it was kinda hard to roll over after you lay there for about 1/2 hour or so. Do you guys have this same problem? Thanks!

Temperpedic bed has a 90 day return policy.
It'll take a week to get used to but, i've gotten the speech from the wife that if we get devorced that the ONLY thing she wants is the Bed.
I told her that shes gotta take the kids 2:)

Be prepared to LOVE your bed and sleep like crap anywhere else.
three friends of mine i've bet 300.00 bucks against a new bed and none would give up their beds but, i'm 900.00 richer. All had back problems including my wife. Try it for 90 days. lose nothing?

I suffered from upper back/shoulder pain from pressure points on my old matress. I now have a Tempur-Pedic bed and its like sleeping on air. I love this thing, I have a Tempur-Pedic neck pillow, Symphony pillow, and comfort pillow so how ever I want to sleep I have a pillow for it. Well worth the investment.

Get a Tempur-pedic my1stGN

Have had 3 back surgeries, 1 lamenectomy L2-L3 and two fusions L4-L5,L5-S1..(4 Titanium cages). Sleep on a TempurPedic mattress, my wife hates it but it supports and "molds" to my back, whether on your side or back so there is less pressure point discomfort. I am able to do leg lifts/extensions and modified crunches because it molds and supports my back, can't hardly do those excercises on the floor cause the floor doesn't mold to my lower lumbar area(natural curve)might just have Wimpitis..Have had chronic back pain/problems since 91, have degenerative back disease, dessicated discs, spondolythesis(slipped disc).

Had a 60k Medtronic Spinal stimulator put in was hoping for back and right leg pain relief alittle over a year ago then. 3 mos. ago.. Had a another device implanted a Medtronic Intrathecal med Pump 40K. 100k worth of devices, man the cost for Medical devices is outrageous. Could have bought a nice GNX and another GN for that chunk of change. Thank God we have good Health Insurance and my Employer ain't run me off. Some Insurances allow your Primary Care Doctor to write a prescription for a Tempur Pedic bed if your back problem is documented. You usually can get Chiropractor care as well as they would rather go conservative and our excepting of this kind of care nowadays. Cheaper then going to an Orthopedic doc. Both my Fusions were 20K each.

Actually praise God had surgery yesterday they did a revision/ fixed the infusion cath that's anchored into my spine and then tunneled over to my right abdominal area device pocket, wasn't gettin meds thought it was a kinked catheter but it ended up being a blood clot. So was not getting pain relief from the Intrathecal med pump and infusion catheter to my spine the meds were just leaking into the pocket and that amount of meds don't do nothing there.. As of yesterday Finally getting relief from the Morphine infusion. Tempurpedic plus morphine seems to work for me. It may sound like I'm getting alot of medication but 5mgs over a 24 hour period in the spine (spinal fluid)is equivelent to getting 200 to 300 mgs a day IV. At least 60x's stronger into the spinal column so you don't need as much..

Long story short the Tempurpedic mattress has helped with my back problems. Has helped a fellow worker and a Physican that I work with told em both about my experience with Tempur Pedic beds..What's nice about the Company if you get it thru their Internet Site is they give you a 90 day trial so if you don't like it they will refund you and pay for return shipping. Going to a Mattress store and laying on different mattresses doesn't teach you a thing you need to actually sleep on them. Hope you get to feeling better and get some relief.

You get the 90 day return policy at any authorized Tempur-Pedic retailer. I got mine from HOM Furniture and it has everything I would have got if I would have bought it direct with one bonus, you get a free pillow when you buy it from the store.
