I need my trans freshened up a bit. Looking for a good builder in the 704 NC area that knows enough not to screw it up. I have all the parts already from PTS including some new hardened and rollerized pieces. I also have a new Vigalante convertor waiting to go in. Trans is pulled and ready to go to the shop.

Just need a good builder.......:D

TIA!!:)

I just went through this and I have found that when you use the parts you buy nobody wants to guarantee the transmission. Everyone wants to use parts they buy. I wanted a race built tranny and found many people who would do it. I would buy the parts, they would build it, but no warranty. I ended up getting a rebuild from AAMCO. Long story there, but it may be right when I get it back today.

Been there and done that with a T400. I'll not play that one again. They f*cked me out of a #'s matching case for my 74 Z-28 and the 2400 stall convertor that was factory. When I tried to get those back they gave me a line about standard practice to pull yours out and install(or give back) what they had on the shelf for that particular car. I even tried to purchase the case and convertor back, but they wouldn't do it. I think someone there wanted it by the way they acted about it. Never lost my cool, wasn't worth it to have a heart attack, but I'll not deal with them again. All of this from needing new clutchs, steeles, and seals.

No one who lives in foothills of NC has had a BRF 200-4R rebuilt in state that worked well?

A guy I used to hang with had his 87 GN tranny rebuilt by a guy in Kinston once. That thing shifted nice and firm in all gears and never slipped in the several years of Hell he put it through. I can try and get the name of the shop if you'd like. I was going to take my car there to get it done but the tow bill alone would have killed me. I went there a few years back and he said it would be around $1,100. I'm sure it may have gone up a bit since then but if all his trannies work like that one then it is well worth the money. I believe his shop is a mile or so up the road from the drag strip.

I would greatly appreciate that.

Also I'm working with a local guy(about 2 miles from the house) that has rebuilt lots of trannies. He's been in business for 29 years and has loads of experience building race trans. for the local drag racers(Shady Side Dragway is real close). He's supposed to be getting me a time setup with one of his customers that has an 87 SS Monte so that I can test drive his car to sample his work on a 200-4R(since those are essentially the same trans). I've known the guy for a long time, and have had him do some work before all of which was good, just didn't know how his work on 200's was. Guess I'll know this week since that Monte SS is running a Fast Burn 385 crate motor with nitrous, not the weak kneed 305 it came factory with.:)
