I have an 85 T-Type that has abored engine in it, and it is overheating when you drive it around town for a while. It has a new water pump, thermostat, radiator was just recently redone, and I have checked out the radiator fan as well as the radiator cap with known good ones off my other cars, but no matter what I have tried it still gets hot. I do not have an aftermarket gauge installed yet to see how hot its getting, but it is getting hot as it will start to act up and if you check it, it feels pretty warm from under the hood. To make my matters even worse when the new engine was put in the guy doing it ran the main engine wire loom right in front of the idiot light indicator and he didint hook it up, and with the way the loom is run I cant even get the idiot light hooked up. My main question is what can I do to make this thing run cooler? Any help is greatfully appreciated. Thanks Dusty

one thing that might help is ditch the stock clutch fan and go with a dual electric fan controlled by either a swith or get a 87ecm and run them of that

Easy as one two three.

1. 87 ECM
2. Dual ramchargers from GBODYPARTS with connector.
3. Caspers 84/85 electric fan conversion kit.
4. FBODY radiator like a MODINE 951.
5. 87 v8 Cutlass radiator hold dowm plate.
6. 160 degree thermostat.

I never go above 170 degrees. Want a PIC? Brad

A pic would be good. How bad is it installing everything? Do I have to change out anything in the harness to install the 87 ECM or does it just plug right in. Thanks Dusty

The conversion is easy. The 84/85 wiring harness works just fine with the conversion to the 87 ECM. I am not going to repeat the steps necessary because you can find the on GNTTYPE.ORG. The basics are a Caspers MAT sensor, 87 ECM, 87 chip, Caspers 84/85 electric fan conversion kit, Modine 951 radiator( or other f-body radiators), 87 V8 Cutlass radiator hold down plate, 87 MAF, 160 degree thermo, NAPA 7899 upper radiator hose. The Caspers conversion kits have all the instructions necessary. Good luck. Brad

I read that you can leave the MAT out if you have someone burn a chip for you so that it does not have the provision for the MAT is this true?

The anwser is yes. You do not have to install a MAT sensor. I did it anyways since it is a simple install. Good luck Brad

Since you did all that work to your cooling system already, why not just get a single electric fan to throw inside the stock fan shroud? Summit sells some or you could go to the junkyard and measure one up. Would be cheaper then $50. You can just wire it up to a switch and run it in town or when your new gauge(you better get one:D ) tells you she is hot. So, $100 you could have a electric fan and new gauge. Just trying to help you save some coin. -Nick.
