need help with converter id

i have a th400, but i dont know what stall the converter is. is there a way that i can find out with out taking it off the car. also how do i tell if it is a l/u or non l/u. i dont know very much about trannys, so any help would be greatful. thanks

TH400 transmissions were not built as lock-ups so that's out. There really is no way to "judge the book by the cover" when it comes to converters. Unless you could identify the manufacturer and their part number by stampings on it (assuming it's an aftermarket unit), there's no way to know what it is.
