Need help with GN rearend ID.

I just found a GN rear locally to replace my rear in my regal limited.
Ad says it has the 3.42s in it and $550 for it seems like a deal.
My question is how do i identify it as a real GN rear and what other things do I need to look for that are different from the 7.5 in my Regal?

They should literally have a tag on the rear that tells if its a 3.42 Posi. I am pretty sure.

The tags are on posi's only. They don't tell you what gear ratio it is. It's only there to tell you to use the proper lube. An 8-1/2" rear will have a round cover. The 7-1/2" is flat on the top and bottom. Remember you will need a shorter driveshaft with the 8-1/2". If you can post a pic we can tell you right away. :smile:

Thanks for the quick response guys! So look for a tag on the cover to let me know it is a posi or not ok I am going to get it if still available. I am not worried about the driveshaft because I have to get a custom one to work with my 6.0/4l80e combo. I will get a pic up if I get it.
