There's point where safety concern should over-ride fit. Tires much wider than the wheel can also have serious wear/handling issues. IMHO, 275 is already a lot of tire for that wheel.

Agreed 100%!! Every week there are new threads about "what's the widest tire I can cram on stock wheels?". Not only is it annoying that this thread pops up every 4 days (search function people), but the fact that so many people think 275 or above are SAFE much less EFFECTIVE on 7" rims is funny.

The sidewall will not behave as designed when you have the wheels/tires "hourglassed", aka having these huge bulges of tire with a skinny little rim in the middle. Not to mention the tires will wear not properly either.

If you're at the point of running wide drag radials, people are going to know that your car isn't stock anyway, so I don't understand all the concern about keeping the stock rims. Spend a couple hundred and get nice rims that are DESIGNED to hold huge tires like that.

Just like anything on a car. You don't go out and bolt up a 90mm turbo to a stock engine. If you want to have a huge turbo, you buy the other parts to support it. If you want to run big tires, buy the wheels to support them.

First off you could be a little less rude with your remarks. Now second, there are many people being added to the board every day and maybe we want to get the opinions of them as well. And before you go start making assumptions about someones vehicle witout asking certain questions. I have aftermarket rims, amazing aftermarket rims at that look great, are light, and cost over 300 a piece. So please don't go make assumptions about people's vehicles. And just as an added note, I did search for posts, I always do before I make a post, I just never found the answers that I was looking for. So don't criticize someone for asking a dmiple question!

t3intercooled>>> I drive all around town with my drag radials on. They feel fine and are safe IMO. It is MY CAR and I like the stock wheels the way they are. As far as functional, they do the job they are supposed to do very well. So well in fact that if Turbo6chicago really wants to see how well they work he can grab a lane and loose enough money to PAY FOR ME A NEW SET OF WHEELS!

How many TR's on here are pushing parts alot farther than GM expected us too? I suppose the Drag Radial class in Florida is completely safe too right. I didn't say for him to autocross with them on. I drove all summer, had the BFG's now Have the M/T's. Love them on the highway, on cruises, and made passed at the strip without any problems.

I know my 275/50s don't feel real stable on a 15x7. Drive my car with the 275/40 17s and then swap out for the DRs and 15s...you'll know something was radically changed.

..with the above though...going straight...absolutely no issues. It's turning where I'm notiving the above. Your contact patch would be much better at the track on at least a 8" rim if not a 9 or 10. I just BS on these cars is 'BS'. So 15x8s are easily had.
