These parts are for my '89 TTA. My goal is to have the power to run 122-125+ mph in the 1/4 mile. ET is not a primary concern because too many hard launches will trash the rearend. After researching, here is what I came up with:

1) 3.5" MAF, T+, and Extender chip
2) John Craig TE45A turbo
3) Add big neck to TTA intercooler? (not enough ground clearance for 'stretch'?)
4) RJC 'Power Plate'
5) 208/208 flat tappet cam (stock cam may be wiping a lobe)
6) Hotwired 340M pump
7) MSD 50# FI's
8) TH 3" downpipe w/ dump
9) PI 'Vigilante' LU T/C ('0' pump/single disk)

Let me hear some comments/opinions on these parts. Again, remember that they are for a TTA, not a GN.

Thanks!:D

I think you need a little bit more injector to be on the safe side (55's would be my pick) with that combo and also a little bit more stall with the converter for the TE-45A (last I heard the '0' pump was around 3200 stall, but you will probably need something like a 3600 stall converter so there is no lag)....
The 208/208 cam will work fine for your goals, but as far as the intercooler goes I have seen a TTA with a CAS V4 (21 row) stock location stretch unit but now it seems getting a V4 from Tony is not a good idea:rolleyes: so I would maybe call and talk with Keith Mease of Mease Performance about his new stretch intercooler and see if it would fit on a TTA.... I suppose you could use a stocker with the bigger necks, but a stretch IC would definitely yeild some gains over a stocker from what I've seen!
Just my .02 worth :)

the 45A is too much turbo for stock heads...if you talk to John he will tell you so....you'll never get it to spool...something like a 60 would be much better...actually with the mods you are discussing a 49 or 44 would work just fine

That confuses me even more!?! I spoke with John last week about this combo and he said that it would work with a loose converter. I had one of his TA61's on an '87 Limited back in '97 that turned low 11's @ 119-120mph w/ stock D5 T/C. Do you really think the 49 or 44 would be up to running 122-125mph?

no, but I doubt the combo you are talking about will run 125....it just doesn't breathe enough........bigger IC & heads, yeah

so, a 60 series is prolly what you want......I just can't imagine you will be happy with a 45A.....I ran mine briefly on port matched stock heads and ran 120+ with it, but spoolup was terrible

I dunno what John meant by "loose converter" but anything less than 4000 isn't loose enough......I normally run a 6 pump (3600 stall) Precision and launch at 4000 rpm off a t-brake, using a MaxEffort, and spoolup isn't what I call instant

a big turbo and stock heads just isn't a good idea IMHO....its your $$ tho

Now that's surprising. I would've thought that you would have instant boost with that setup. -FWIW- I do have a Tbrake.

lemme put it this way, if you want instant spoolup, get a BB turbo and 5000 stall (with a 66mm and up turbo)

when things are right, I can hit 4000 from the time both stage lites are lit until the 3rd yellow.....so maybe 3 sec...if I stage at 2500+

remember, I am flowing a bunch better than stock heads........

yeah, the TTA's are prolly 5 mph better for a given power level

Don't think i'd wanna push a Walbro 340 to 125mph +. Stock maf is fine, Heads, Turbo, IC are the three keys to giving you your speed. Just Keep it simple and forget the Maf and translator and find a good chip burner. I'm guessing that you will have everything else to support these HP #'s like a built tranny, and built lower end. You can acheive a good ET with a great launch, but there is no way to improve MPH with driver skill. The car either has it, or it doesn't...

Turbo is fine...66bb turbo mentioned IMHO is better, but @ $1650 not for everyone.
need more injector
cam is fine
power plate is fine
i'd go non LU.

Well FWIW the guy I know down here with the TTA has a TE-45A turbo, V4 IC, and a restalled D5 (not sure if it's a 2500 or 2800 stall converter) but he hits it with a bit of juice (yeah I know everybody will say nitrous is a big NO-NO) to make it spool and this is with a bone stock longblock.... His car went 116-118mph with a TE-44 and I'm sure he will be in the 120+mph range easily with the 45A turbo....

GNSCOTT, a single Walbro 340 has been proven to be fine all the way up to about 125-127mph range (just ask Jack Cotton), but if he plans to go any faster than that yes a double pumper is a good idea....

Stock TTA heads seem to flow better than stock 8445 heads so IMHO there is nothing wrong with a 45A with stock TTA heads and that's probably why John told you it could work with a loose converter (a TR would be a different story)....

Thank you to all who have responded. Anyone else? I'm thinking of changing my shopping list to:

1) 3.5" MAF, T+, and Extender chip
2) John Craig TE61 turbo
3) Mease custom TTA 'stretch' IC
4) RJC 'Power Plate'
5) 208/208 flat tappet cam (stock cam may be wiping a lobe)
6) Hotwired 340M pump
7) MSD 50# FI's (maybe 55#)
8) TH 3" downpipe w/ dump
9) PI 'Vigilante' LU T/C ('0' pump/single disk)

Any opinions? I plan to talk with John Craig and Jack Cotton tomorrow.

Anbody have any input on cams...ie Weber 206 VS RAMCH 208 VS Speed Pro 204/214?

that sounds like a good combo for very low 11's and maybe high 10's with a good 60' time:)

RE INJECTORS:

www.racetronix.com has the new high-impedance (stock) 55/57#
injectors available, if you don't want to upgrade the ECM for low impedance injectors at this time.

HTH :)

Thanks for the info, Two Lane! However, I think that there will be a learning curve for any 'new' injector and I'd rather stay with a proven combo.

-Interesting point- I was convinced that the MSD 50#'s were my best bet, but Red Armstrong said to avoid them and go with the 55's.

What did you expect him to say? Modding ECMs is a significant part of his business. ;)

Does Keith Mease have a shop number that I can call or can he only be contacted via email?
