tell me what you guys think. 2004r built to handle 500hp. with 2800-3000 stall lock up convertor. has Transgo shift kit, Sonnax billet oversize servo, Borg Warner clutches and Kevlar O.D. band..It's a NOS trans given up by a community college..they are using 700r4's now they are asking $1200.00 tell me what you guys think about this or any other guestions I should be asking the guy..thanks for the input..

Just because it has better parts doesn't mean it will handle horsepower. Who built it? Do they know about the 200-4R or is it "just an automatic" to them. One of the "they're all the same" mentallities? There are better valve body kits out there than the TransGo kits. I have used TG kits but modify them to my liking as a lot of them cause problems with 2nd gear starts. Someone near you who knows the 200-4R should take a look at it if you get it. Don't just throw it in.

I wouldn't have someone who doesn't know the turbo regal do a 2004R, period. What calibration is that trans? Any warranty? You can have a trans done by someone who does (Brian Hofer is who did mine) for less than 2 grand AND keep your transmission as a backup.

I'd pass, too much $$ if the College built it. Kevlar band is crap. O.D. band?? If that's OverDrive band, the 2004R doesn't have one.

I still get people calling it the 2-4 band. I politely tell them "It's not a 700, only 2nd gear".
