My gas gauge is off and I need a new fuel sending unit that goes in the gas tank.
Does anyone have the GM part number for it ?
Second question, is this unit unique to the TTA only ?
Thanks

Use GM#19111386, old # was 25027221. Kinda pricey too!
Good luck.

Well I went to the local Chevy GM dealership to get the fuel sending unit. I gave him part number 25027221 and as I expected it is discontinued.
I then gave him the above part number 19111386 and he says that it is not for the 89 TTA and not for the 3.8 but is listed for the 2.8, 5.0 and 5.7
He told me that the part number for the TTA is 25090906 which is also discontined. I also tried Meadowland Pontiac and Pace Perfomance (which is a Pontiac dealership) who also said that the part number I need is 25090906 which is discontinued and that 19111386 wont work.
So, is anyone using the above part number 19111386 with their TTA even though GM says its not for the 3.8 ?
Thanks

My hard lines from the fuel sending unit (so what you see outside of the tank) where rusted so I got a new really nice (actually looked new) off a 88 GTA with the 5.7L engine and they were identical and works the same ... could not spot a difference at all ...

Not sure why the TTA would have a different version than any of the others that same year ... unless the actual fuel pump is different hence different part numbers for the whole assembly?

My gauge is off too, especially under 1/2 tank. My '92 was way off and I replaced the sender, the pump and tank and now it's still off at 1/4 or less.

The work involved in dropping the tank wasn't worth it to get an accuarate gauge reading...if there is such a thing.

I just keep it at a 1/2 or more and call it a day.

OK I called my buddy at the dealer and he faxed me the sheet on them. He also said this stuff changes month to month so it gets frustrating.

25090906 is the correct TTA unit and it is discontinued but Vintage Parts shows 4 of them. I have one coming so I can compare it to the 25027221 that I already bought.

25027221 lists as fitting the 87-89 2.8 vin code 5, 87-92 5.0 vin code F and 5.7 vin code 8, the 3.8 LC2, 88-91 5.0 vin code E and 88-91 5.0 vin code F and 5.7 vin code 8

19111386 fits 87-89 2.8 vin code S, 87-91 5.0 vin code F and 5.7 vin code 8 and 88-91 5.0 vin code E

The 25027221 I have didn't come with a fuel pump and since the 25090906 is the same price I'm betting it doesn't come with one either. So that can't be the difference. It's probably something small like the plug is in a slightly different spot, the wires are a little longer or shorter, one of the steel pipes is a fraction smaller or larger, the fuel pump hanger is slightly different, etc. It can't be a big difference or Jan would have seen it when he did his.
I dunno but since the correct one is available at Vintage Parts it makes the answer easy for now!

I called NAPA to see if they listed the original part number of 25027221 cross referenced. They sell one made that is cross referenced for the 89 3.8 turbo and is thier part number BK 2003308 for $189.00 They also said that they carry one made by Adelphi (which he claims makes them for GM) but cost $399.00
I gave him the lastest GM number 25090906 listed above and it did not show up in their computer.

Please let me know what you find once you get the one from Vintage

Also interested to learn what differs the TTA one from the regular TA/GTA one ...

How much was the one from VPI?

Bob I sent you all the info and pics. Jan I'll send you the same. I'm thinking the difference isn't so much that it's TTA but more that it's 1LE. I'm guessing the extra tank baffling made GM do some small changes to the unit. There's too many pics to post them all but I'll put a few key ones here.

Here's what I see;

The TTA unit has a single wire going from the harness plug to the fuel pump and it doesn't have a plastic plug on the end. It has a metal connector that looks like the kind that would normally go into the GM plastic plugs.

The ground wire for the harness goes to the outside of the unit rather than the inside like the 25027221 and most of the other ones I've seen.

The pipe that the fuel pump attaches to stays real close to 3/8" OD instead of necking down to 5/16' like the 25027221.

The metal rod the sender float attaches to has a different bend than the 25027221 though they're the same length overall.

There's a large metal bracket that I'd guess is a support for the fuel pump the 25027221 has but the 25090906 does not. The shape of the fuel pump support piece differs a little too.
