Words can't express how annoyed I am right now. I took a ride this afternoon in my 5000 mile GN....this was the first time I've had it out since Christmas. As I'm putting it back in the garage, I notice the power antenna is making noise but not moving. I can't believe the antenna cable has broken with the car being driven sooooo rarely. To make a long story short, I need some help fixing it. I read the procedure on the Gnttype.org site, but I'm still not clear on things. Do I need to actually remove the passenger fender, or just the inner fender? If I pull the tire and remove the inner fender will I be able to reach everything? Can the fix-it kit be found in stock at most dealerships? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Do not remove any fender

It's been a while since I removed my antenna, but do as the article on GNTTYPE instructs to remove the fender bolts visible with the door open and in the wheel well. You basically just want to be able to gently pull the lower section of fender (near the door) open just enough to allow room for removal of your antenna from below.

Low milleage has hurt the antenna in my opinion and not helped it. Mine let go a 22k miles from lack of use. The cable is a thin plastic cord and if you never use it it stays in the coiled position too long and then breaks -- my opinion. That and just being old.

When I replaced mine I took off the bolts in the door hinge area (already mentioned) and the ones that hold the fender to the plastic wheel well cover. I think there is a bolt you remove from the bottom up too. I did not take off the ones inside the engine bay.

I was able to gently pull the bottom of the fender outward and get my hand up inside the fender. I unscrewed the top of the antenna and slid it down and out the bottom.

It was pretty easy to do once I got in there but use a block of wood to keep the fender pulled away because if it snaps down on your forearm..........damn! (Ask me how I know).

Yeah, mine works great at 119,000 miles. It just means you guys need to drive your garage queens more often ;)
