I installed new lifters thinking they were the cause of my sudden tapping/knocking noise problem. The car has not driven a mile since putting them in, and has only ran for about 5min. Maybe a few minutes more, but all off and on as I was trying to track down the source of the problem. I have not been able to get rid of the sound yet, so I guess it wasnt the lifters .
QUESTION IS, should I put the old lifters back in (in their respective spots on the cam, of course), which had less than 2000 miles on them along with the cam, or should I just leave the new ones in there?
Also, do I need to do anything to "break-in" the new lifters if I leave them. I wasnt worrying about any type of "break-in" procedure after I discovered the sound didnt go away and didnt let the car run long, but need to know just incase I do get it to go away and start to drive it again.
Thanks.
