Need supporting mod list for TE-45a

I am going to a TE-45a and will be installing PP iron heads that flow 205int 170exh @ .500, a 206 .496lift weber roller, & Champion intake prior to buying the TE-45a. What inj. and fuel pump requirements do I need to upgrade to. I am also considering going to a ME-R chip. I am also upgrading to a Cotton FM and T&D 1.55 rockers.

I will also be building a short block with three billet mains in the future. Hopefully the stock short block will last until then. I won't push it real hard until then

I would recommend 72# injs. One 340 pump might work, but I would go double pumper. Im running 55# injs but its pushing it.

I am spraying alky so I have an extra fuel source that supplements the 50s. I have a buddy that is running a 67 turbo from Limit and his 50s are only at 70% DC with spray. I really do not like the double pumper approach. I have read about problems with them. I will most likely do an external pump if I need more flow.

What kind of times and trap speeds are you getting with your set up? My car is mainly street with a few trips to the track to tune and the March Buick event at Bradenton.

Figure MSD 50s are good for 11.00s. Some have gone faster, but they are on the edge at that level. Assuming a full weight car. I would go 72s. Or at least the new 65s.

Last oct. I ran with slicks, reds 106 chip, 26.5# boost. Car ran 10.74@122. I let the car shift into 4th and got 6degs knock. Got 1.50 60 ft., 6.79@100.4 in the 1/8. With only 18 degs timing in the chip I should be able to go 2 or 3 more #s boost. Should go solid mid 10s.

It depends on the weight of your car too. You'll need more HP to go faster if you're a heffer like my ride. I have this turbo on a stock engine, no heads, stock cam, etc.... Single 340 pump and 50's are not enough. I'd play it safe, go bigger pump or pumps and go 72's.....

a double pumper at a minimum with 72's (and they work just fine....unless you are inclined to spend $1500 for a good external pump that you cannot run on the street)

forget the alky if you want to go real fast

those times were run with a "regular" ME, maf and all.......

don't recommend doing it with 55's

if your car won't pick up at least 25-26 mph in the last 1/8, something is wrong

You are getting some good advice. For a street car, occasional drag strip, I'd keep running the progressive alky. You should tune to run high 10s on 25 psi or less with your future mods, with a good sixty foot time.

Lastly HP is a MPH deal. So the quote of time..is one issue. The quote of MPH is a totally different issue. case in point car runs 10.50 at 110. You can do that on stock injectors. Car runs 10.50 at 130.. ahhhhh thats another story.

72's are a good size injector, are figured on these cars. Mike i'll be working on a controller for the double pumper setup that doesnt use the typical Hobbs switch.. that will be out soon. I think your 340 will get you there with good grounds and possibly a voltbooster.

Great advice on the 25-26 MPH pickup on the other end.

I went 10.59 on 50s with no 7th.If you dont like changing head gaskets go with 72s.The 50s will start breaking up around 90% DC.After I went with the steel shims and 72s Im out of practice on the head gasket changing ,two seasons almost without failure.also i run the ME-R and by accident went 35 psi for an 1/8 mile last week.still togather

alky is a wonderful thing, but any fast car on alky will be faster on race gas, period

alky acts like 100 octane fuel and with some good tuning and a proper chip, you can make a lot of power

with a proper tune for race gas (116 type) and lots of boost, you will go faster

Geno's 10 sec car on alky is a 9 sec car on gas

for street use, alky is great....however, a TE-45A doesn't even begin to talk until 25 lbs so you better have a chip with the proper timing or you'll soon become an expert in headgaskets

I do not believe a full weight car and alky can be a reliable 10 sec combo (unless it is a solid 9 sec build)

Woody, I don't see any reason you could not run 26 to 28 psi on alky. I run straight Methanol and only ran 24 psi twice with no knock (I've only been to the track 4 times with this full weight car). Even the RA race chips have low timing, and I am just running a TT 93 street chip.

I'll have to run C16 and my race chip to compare, but I'm happy with a 7.03 on pump, which should be right around 11.0. And my car does pick up 25 mph in the quarter

sure, you can run lots of boost with alky with the proper tune.....that same boost on race gas and proper tune will always go faster tho

you are doing a great job with your setup...try a decent race chip and race gas sometime and see what happens

do you have any full 1/4 mile results with that much boost & alky? You really don't "stress" anything until that last 1/8 in 3rd gear....

9.99 on race gas.

10.15 at 136 on alky

And only on his second time out.. middle of summer. If he can get some seat time, better weather, I believe he would eclipse his C16 time on alcohol. Only .16 off.. thats not a lot. That would be another milestone..

FWIW.. its way more than 100 when you pump it in with some volume

Even if you run C16, the cooling and distribution effects will pick the motor up.

I've only ran the quarter track (2 hours away) once but discovered at the track the ds header had cracked badly. I've since replaced it with a stainless ATR. With the cracked header I could not launch and had 1.9 to 2.0 sixtys, but on 22 psi and alky it still ran 11.7 @118.x (7.5@93). I am running DS now and it did ok in the last eighth, no major kr.

Woody, I have a TT race chip for C16 to try out soon. I wanted to get it running right before I changed too much or ran the $$ race fuel. I'm in the process today of installing a TA 66 Q-trim.
